[livejournal.com profile] noeon, you are right. Russian LOLcats are the best. But then you dig into the comments, and it's a worthy waste of HOURS of your time.

# Jorge Says:
Has anyone pointed out that these caption translations are incorrect, and that this site is generally unfunny?

# Sarklor Says:
Yes, but such people are dead inside, so their opinions don’t count. That’s what my Commissar tells me, and that’s good enough for me.

ETA: This. *snort* [commentor: Shouldn’t that be “proletaricat”?]

Apparently they reach their maximum funny when you can read both the Russian and the English, but I'll just have to settle for the American WTFery version. Which is awesome. Thoughts, [livejournal.com profile] akavertigo?

Aren't they *amazing*!!!!

My current fave is the cat sniffing out the window captioned by, "Aaaaah… Pig iron, your musk is that of glorious industry …"

I'm really liking the one with a cat in a handbag: "You’re light on your payments again Andrei. If we discover you’ve been holding out, you’ll be treated to a reunion with your cousins at the bottom of the Moskva."

what I love is how, to my eye, at least, the captions have very little to do with whatever's being said in Russian.

that being said, THIS IS AWESOME. Now, to find the бабушка кошка...

[identity profile] noeon.livejournal.com 2009-02-22 06:48 am (UTC)(link)
Exactly. There is no connection at all. And there are a lot of complaints from people about the "poor translations." Which is funny in and of itself.

Aw man. Go internet commenters go!

I skimmed a few... it's the same four or five commenters having the exact same argument in every single thread. Some of them even cut and paste their replies from last time. >D

OMG THE COMMENTS. Internet commenters, why do you span the depths and heights of stupidity and intelligence? Why is the combination so amusing?

I like the pro-joke Russians arguing with the super-offended Russians. And the fake-Russians arguing with the fake-Russians.

Note to those who can't take a joke:

This is funny:

Drat, thwarted so close to freedom’s sweet caress… I dreamed for but a taste of the decadent west, and now my eulogy is sung by guard dogs and alarm bells.

This is NOT:

“Boxer: How should I deal with insomnia? They have instructed me to count till 10 but right after I reach 9 I immediately jump on my feet.”

Correct translations of the original captions be damned. If these were making fun of the endless American bullshit, I'd still laugh my ass off. Lighten up, world. Honestly.

But...but...but the words aren't funny at all. They're just talking about lunch!

Lunch is no joking matter. Especially since it doesn't even exist in Russia.

Russians don't have lunch? Subway must be having great difficulty there since the iron curtain fell.

Breakfast. Dinner. Supper. (With much endorsing of snacks.)
