Want something to read?
Something that's long, intoxicating, dramatic, full of sweeping angst, bitter action, and and romance that hurts?
Want some Spuffy that seems to have gone unfairly unnoticed when it should be enjoyed?
Try one of my favorite fics ever: COUNTESS by Scribe
I keep recommending this to people, because everyone who's into B/S will adore this fic. And possibly cry. And even if you hate B/S, read it anyway for the villain. She's an absolutely kick-ass original character, something few and far between in Buffyfic.

Incidently, one of the short stories in the "tales of the slayer" collection also has bathory, although its not as good as this.
Hm... I haven't read that collection. I've only read a few Buffy Books; most of them aren't that great.
I liked Bathory in this because as a character she didn't feel like a mary-sue or self-insertion. Throughout the fic she's a well-developed, convincing villain. Also I liked it because there haven't been that any vampire Big Bads on Buffy since, well, season 2 really. So it was cool to read that again. And the story is just so wonderfully written helps a lot too. The prequel to this was a crossover between BtVS and The Magnificent Seven (which I guess was a tv show based on the western movie). I read that first, and loved it, even though I didn't know ANYthing about the other show. But it's all Wishverse meets Westerns, with 2 Spikes running around, lots of angst, and cool fighting.
Now though, Scribe seems to be writing all LotR fic. ::pout:: I wish he/she would go back to BuffyFic.

I noticed all the LoTR stuff. Not really my bag (well, I mean the original is great, but Fanfic LoTR seems...wrong. I don't know guess I am being all prissy and english)!

Date: 2003-02-06 01:27 pm (UTC)I think the reason it doesn't bother me is that I end up reading Legolas/OC romances (the rare good kind--I've pretty picky and avoid Mary Sues), and as that has little to nothing to do with the canon, I don't really look at it as the same thing. Especially since Legolas wasn't the most developed character in the books. It's almost like it's Original Fiction in a familiar setting/universe. There's little actual canon material for LotR, when you compare it to a tv show or a series of 10+ books. It's hard to have an expectation of what Legolas should behave or act like, so every fic I read characterizes him different. In Buffyfic, this would bother me, because I have a clear expectation of the characters from what I see on the show. In LotR, not so much--because the expectation isn't there. I can pretty much enjoy any of it, providing its well written. Which a lot of it isn't.
