Okay, LJ peeps!

I just finished the final 3 episodes of Merlin, which were great fun and somehow not quite as cheesy as the rest of the show. There was cheese, of course, but it was tasty cheese. Gouda, probably, or blue. And now I need recs. >D

Fanvids are good, fanfics are better! I'm partial to Morgana and Merlin as characters, but for shipping I'm a traditionalist (Arthur/Gwen, thank you show) and kinda weird (Merlin/Morgana, Arthur/Morgana, Merlin/Nimwueh.) I did like Merlin/Gwen earlier, but my traditional het shipper gooey insides rebelled in favor of Arthur/Gwen.

Still, I'd appreciate recs of any pairings, if you love them! And I do love Merlin+Arthur Buddy Adventure Stories. And group adventure stories. I totally get Merlin/Arthur, even though it's not my cuppa beyond BFFs.

Well, then, Drastically Redefining Protocol will be not your cuppa: it's a modern day Arthur/Merlin story.

On the other hand, I have never even seen the show, I'm not especially an m/m slasher and I really liked it. It was sweet and clever and funny -- with bonus multimedia!

Or course, the modern day part helped with me being able to follow it, and I have no idea how the characters relate to how they're drawn on the show. They were very vivid, though.

Heh, I've done a bit of browsing this afternoon, and AU fics seem to be really popular. I can kind of understand, since the show is pretty much like a high school AU of the Camelot story anyway, but at the same time it seems a little redundant.

I'll give it a look-see, thanks for the rec. =)

Hmm. Are there high school AUs of plain high school programs? I guess those would just be AUs. I wonder if they have vampire!AUs, or medieval!AUs? *wonders, but not enough to go find out*

Cool. It was recc'ed by a flistee of mine, and is the one and only fic for that fandom I've ever read. Let me know how you like it.

These vids made me want to love the show. Unfortunately, I couldn't get past the first episode.

Thanks for the videos!

Understandable. Like methamphetamine, Merlin gets easier the more you consume. I actually waited about 4 months before watching the last 3 eps today, and would have gone longer, maybe never finished, if I hadn't been bored.

The series is cute and I have to take it for what it is, but my anime-watching, drama-loving, Jossfan, book-reading, theater-loving heart can't quite stop wanting it to be more than it is. More dramatic, more operatic, more full of anguish, more mystical (instead of just having Hogwarts style magic), more threaded with stuff that would work with lyrics like there are power lines in our bloodlines.

I wish Merlin were darker, witchier, a little less pure of heart and a little more desperate. I wish Arthur were a little more clever and a little less of a jerk. I want it to be cheesy EPIC instead of cheesy Saturday morning Hercules rerun.

But, you know, I'll take it as cotton candy fluff tv until then.

I would love it if it was.
