I seem like the only person who couldn't get into that series. I found the episodes intensely boring. Hardison was the only reason I watched as many as I did before I gave up.
I can understand why you reacted that way. I watched 13 in about 5 sittings, not like a huge marathon. There's something very procedural about each episode, and the pace/tone never changes. So you always know they're going to win somehow, through teamwork and cleverness; it's just a matter of waiting to see how it's done. If that bores you in one episode, it will bore you in all of them. It bores me on almost all the major cop shows like L&O and CSI.
I consider it popcorn tv, overall. Guaranteed pleasant and enjoyable 42 minutes, with funny quips, limited angst, and lots of fights and explosions. Plus, I have a kink for caper movies and caper shows. It's not something I fangirl at this point, but I like to have a shelf where I keep all the shows that I know are going to be reliable and pleasant, in case I don't feel like watching something hugely emotional or potentially disappointing. This show is on that shelf, alongside Monk and Psyche and tv movies.
My problem was the serious Ocean's movies vibe I got from the episodes. In the way the characters were presented, it was shot, the music, the scams, all of it. As for characters, I LOVED Hardison and like Chris Kane's character well enough. Was okay with Hutton's and the British woman whose name I'm blanking on. But I absolutely hated Parker with the fire of a thousand million brightly burning suns. GODDAMN, I wanted her repel line to snap in a few episodes, so she'd splat onto the ground. I suspect that reaction deals heavily with the horridness of the actress herself. With a better actress in the role, I might've felt differently.
