I am trying to write a fanfic where it involves an epic make-out moment, and... I don't know what to listen to!
Music is VITAL to my writing process. And all I can seem to find to listen to on my comp is break-up songs! ARGH!
I need some quick recs. Something sweeping. Romantic. Swooning. Swooping. Other cleaning & vertical movement metaphors, I don't know. I'm not asking for links, just names I can play from youtube or something. Anything to jolt my brain into the right sphere of sappy romantic thinking! They can be totally mainstream, too. I don't discriminate in my pop.
Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeellllllllllllppppppppppppppppppp!
ETA: The pairing I'm trying to write for is Uhura/Spock, if that helps.
ETA 3: 1. You guys are so thoughtful for responding! 2. I don't think my romantic vernacular matches everyone else's, apparently. I should figure out how to fix that. To clarify my confusing and incomprehensible request above: Not slow songs, because slow songs tend to be sad even if they are romantic and my brain thinks sweeping/swooning/epic = big music and energy. Seventy-six bloody trombones.

These are all the links for my respective Box.net folders. Have a look around and take whatever you like. I'm sure that there has to be something in there you can use. I suggest anything in the McShep folder.

Date: 2009-06-03 05:39 am (UTC)Delicate (original (http://www.box.net/shared/8l4697salj) or acoustic (http://www.box.net/shared/3riefums21)) by Damien Rice; pretty, quiet, more subdued in parts while heartwrenchingly earnest in others also the lyrics: we might kiss, when we are alone / when nobody's watching might take you home / we might make out, when nobody's there / its not that we're scared, it's just that its delicate. COME ON.
And Then You (http://www.box.net/shared/aqa8en6nj7) by Greg Laswell; Pure romance ala Spock. Notable parts: ALL OF IT (http://www.songmeanings.net/songs/view/3530822107858730778/).
Sandalwood (http://www.box.net/shared/1d27utexj4) by Lisa Loeb; Anyone who ever has to write a slow romance scene NEEDS THIS SONG.
Beautiful (http://www.box.net/shared/xlc61tt5tp) by Me'shell Ndegeocello; See above.
You Made Me The Thief Of Your Heart (http://www.box.net/shared/1ulpq00x9m) by Sinead O'Connor feat. U2; EPIC EPIC EPIC EPIC.
GOOD LUCK :D

I'm kind of LOLing over these awesome recs because nothing in my post ever said anything about slow romance. I think "epic" and I think people running across a field (or a sinking ship in 1912) and falling into each other's arms in a dramatic rising music, possibly with explosions in the background. Not that the fic would be that (there's a lot of other people making out in that fictitious sunset field), but that's the kind of feeling I get from words like "sweeping".
I don't think my romantic vernacular matches everyone else's, apparently.

You Are My Joy (http://www.box.net/shared/sa1u7ppovn) by The Reindeer Section
Open Your Eyes (http://www.box.net/shared/43uhmmqcpt) by Snow Patrol (this especially fits the running to a loved one theme I think)
Undying Love (http://www.box.net/shared/xi7nzfjnbs) by Two Steps From Hell (aka SWEEPING ROMANTIC TRAILER MUSIC!)
Hopefully this helps more? XD

I don't know about epic or sweeping, more sweet and kinda silly, but hey...I am usually into the angst part of romance :p

Date: 2009-06-03 10:08 am (UTC)My immediate thought: My Heart Will Go On by Celine Dion.
It might be too slow, but to me it's not a sad song if you forget the movie it is connected with. It's really a defiant song, about love beyond any boundaries or obstacles.
And if THAT ain't "sweeping, swooning, epic" I don't know what is. Seriously.

Date: 2009-06-03 06:08 pm (UTC)Indeed 'My Heart Will Go On' is about as epic as a song can be! =D However, I don't think there's a power in the verse that can make me forget the movie it's attached to. *g* The two are one and the same in my brain, and in my brain it's a break up song where one person dies in a frozen watery wasteland.

Date: 2009-06-05 10:25 pm (UTC)"All I Need" by Within Temptation. Building sound! Violins like crashing! The sensation of falling hard and fast in love! Every song by Within Temptation is pretty epic, but they tend to be dark; this one isn't.
X/1999 Theme, String Quartet Version. An instrumental that I found long before I watched the series itself. This romantic instrumental kept me crying to sleep for weeks; I wish I was kidding. It switched my imagination into overdrive. It's played by no more than four violins, but the sound they produce is so tragic that I visualized at least four different romantic and epic storylines to accompany it; maybe this song is what made the series so disappointing.
This is the only instrumental I'll rec, since there are faaar too many that work perfectly. (Lies. VISION OF ESCAFLOWNE OST and every damn song on this page, especially "Athena's Victory!") It's different from most instrumentals in that there's no orchestra, just four violins, and so the sound is cantabile, songlike.
On Your Shore by Charlotte Martin. Damn epic song! More violins, again like the sound of crashing waves! The lyrics imply a romance that went wrong and feelings that remain, but the bit where she repeats, "Here I am, here I am" over and over again seems to me like it should pervade an epic makeout moment.
"The Power of Love" from that Sailor Moon movie. This is... probably not what you were thinking of when you wrote this post, but it IS an epic love song, in its own way...? Okay, fine, so it's CERTAINLY not what you are looking for, but I'll be damned if it doesn't make you gushy and sappy about friendship. (... really, I just wanted to put it on the list. >_>)
I'm not at my computer with my real storage of music, so I think this is it for now. This is probably late and past the moment, but eh, recs never hurt. ^^

Date: 2009-06-05 10:32 pm (UTC)LOL, I remember listening to those songs in middle school! I loved that show so much. Did you know, Sailor Moon was my first superhero? Of course I'd heard of Batman or Superman or Spiderman, but the first superhero team show I ever watched was SM--long before I ever saw Buffy. It's partial inspiration for my new goal of writing a superhero story. =)
I would sooo recommend "Tonight, Tonight" by the Smashing Pumpkins if you hadn't been the one to recommend it to me, heh.
Smashing Pumpkins! Oh my gosh, I should have listened to them the other night. Perfect example of epic. *makes note for future*
I will listen to these others, as well, thank you!
