Am currently moping about, frustrated over the fire disaster in Road Island last night. Such a horrific tragedy, and so many lives. I get upset, hearing things like "the building was not big enough to require regulation ceiling sprinklers."

I've always thought fire would be one of the worst ways to die. How much more awful it must be, to die not only being burned alive, but being burned alive while crushed and trapped in the dark between hundreds of screaming bodies. It'd be hell.

I'm also feeling extrmeely cynical about what the public reaction will be. I remember all the tragedy over the loss of the seven astronauts, and how that has already disappeared from the news, unlike Princess Diana's death commentary, which lasted for months. Then think of the plane crashes and train wrecks and other disasters that have clained sweeping amoutns of lives in teh last ive years alone.

Will the 100+ people who died because of a careless accident last night have a memorial attended by the President? Will the Bush even comment on it, being so busy as he is, making war? Will he order flags at half-mast for over a hundred human lives, when he did it weeks ago for just seven?

Uhm..no, he won't. Because the astronauts died while on US payroll, while doing something for the country.

My dad brught that up too. And I don't expect that it would happen. But it just seems strange to me how the media, and subsequently then how popular public figures like politicians, react to tragedies differently depending on how important those people are to their images or interests, or how important the cause of thier deaths was to their image or interests.

Which is fine by me, I'd rather have Joss in any case. Or maybe Colin Powell. He's cool.

Ah, Joss... he'd be cool to speak at my funeral. He'd have a eulogy that would have the crowd laughing and then weeping and then laughing again. That could be cool.
