Ok, so I see the spoilers for Buffy episode 21 are out. Most of the people on my friends list are really good about this, but I just want to remind you all again to HIDE YOUR SPOILERS!

If anyone doesn't know how to do the lj-cut feature which hides text, you can find it in LiveJournal FAQ (on your right) under Journal Entries---> LJ specific tags.

Remember, moods are spoilers too! If your subject tells how incredibly overwrought you are becuase of great tragedy, or mad because you're a hard-core shipper and "something will happen to yuor pairing"-- Not cool! I don't want to accidentally infer that someone died or broke up or confessed "I love you", or whatever mught happen as that series comes to a close. The only non-spoilery emotion is surprise or lack of surprise.

But like I said, most of you are pretty sensitive to this, which is great. I just wanted to put it up because this is the _series_finale_, and I don't want to be accidentally ruined for it, not a bit.

Curiosity, I think mine is pretty ambiguous since "Holy crap" can be both positive an negative. But you tell me. I really don't want to spoil anyone accidentally.

A "holy crap" is wonderfully vague, like an extra-special "wow".... unlike "dammit!" which would typically negative.

As a mood icon, "indescribable" works beautifully, for Ecstatic Beyond Words or Enraged To The Point Of Incoherency both. *g* I also notice people using "quixotic", though I think some people think it means "weird-ish" and not "foolishly optimistic"...

I noticed that too, though sometimes people mood icons don't reflect their journal entries, so it's hard to tell.

I hope I didn't spoil you with mine -- I think I was too incoherent, as my subject line was, "What! What...what?" And hyper (as a mood) doesn't really give away much either.

But again, I admire you SO MUCH for staying spoiler free. I am going to try for the final ep, but I'm not promising anything. ;)

Nah, I haven't been accidentally spoiled on LJ recently. Earlier in the year though there's been times where someone would post about how "Spoilers are really getting them down" or how "Spoilers about Spike have them in a cloud of shipper bliss"... things like that. I just wanted to put something up to request that people be extra-sensitive for these final episodes of the show. Last time I was accidentally spoiled for the soul in Africa, and its made me very bitter-- because what a surprise that could have been, if I hadn't had guessed/known? Luckily I was unspoiled for Giles' return, so at least I had that.

I've just foudn that the entire aspect of fandom that deals with spoilers leaves a bad taste in my mouth when I later watch the show. People's interpretation of spoilers and their pre-analyses... they really ruin the experience of watching the show. Also, because I've only gotten into spoilers a few times, I'm not really that knowledgable about them, and prefer to stay that way. Easier to avoid temptation if you don't know where to get your next fix.

There's one casting spoiler I've had for a while now because it was rumored from the beginning of the season, and it was confirmed on tonight's Angel, which I download most of early from [livejournal.com profile] wisteria. For some reason, it doesn't bother me to read AtS spoilers. Probably because I'm not that invested in the show, even thoguh I enjoy it.

Jeez, tell me about it. Yesterday I looked on BAPS for a link for the BtVS ep 17 trailer, and I was bombarded with people making assumptions, ripping up characters, and whining about spoilers.

I cannot tell you how many times I have written a post telling everyone to stop assuming and wait (at least) until the spoiler is confirmed, or until we receive more knowledge which makes the spoiler make more sense -- and then said, "Fuck it," and given up.

Some people will persist to blow spoilers way out of proportion; there's nothing I can do about it. For now, I just read directly from the sources and read analyses from people whom I know are rational.

A good plan, that. I'm the same way about episode reviews-- I've gotten tired of the downers this year and now pretty much only read from the people who are optimistic like myself, and don't just whine about it and "rip up characters."

sing it sister please!

It's so hard to find people who want to talk about the series but who aren't spoiled, isn't it - drives me nuts. I have had to leave all of my usual lists and sign up for one unspoiled list only, for the duration. Don't have many LJ friends who post on Buffy but do I ever second you, third you, back you up to the nth. I do not want to know. Thanks for saying so!

I do not want to know.

That's all it comes down to in my mind. It's also brought me to the sad decision that I must give up ff.net. I know there's loads of mostly crap, but there are some real gems among the grindstones of Buffyfic there, and I pride myself on finding them. But it's also the easiest place to get spoiled from summaries or people who don't warn that they're writing spoilers into their fics. Or write "warning" only after telling you the spoiler itself. ::shudder:: I think that if you're deep enough into internet fandom to be able to find spoilers, you should know courtesy enough to put warnings up.

So soon I'll be only on fic recs, LJ, and fanfiction from lists and forums. After May I'll backtrack and read all the Buffyfic I've lapsed on at ff.net. Yeah, I'm insane that way.

spoiler-free zones

Wanted to recommend a yahoo group if you really are serious about staying spoiler-free: "Spoiler_Virgins". It was pretty quiet till a couple of weeks ago, now it has 88 members, all determined to stay unspoiled for the finale (and the episodes leading up to it). The discussions are pretty good because - among other things - you can speculate without wondering if the deafening silence that greets your speculation is just because it's totally lame, or is it that everybody knows you're dead wrong but don't want to spoil you by saying so?

Also the list isn't a downer. Unlike a lot of spoiler lists, I've noticed. The reason I decided to avoid spoilers was I noticed that they made me very angsty, really got me down. Unspoiled, I can really enjoy the series.

have you checked it out lately?

I mean in the last couple of weeks? Membership has jumped by 40 people. Posts have jumped from 22 in February to 454 in March (so far). It turns out there are a lot of people who were desperate for an unspoiled place to chat. I'll be posting my reviews there, as will Sanguine and Tara, to incite further discussion.

Well, as I've repeated to the point of pitiful broken-recordness, I am fiercely spoiler free, because(1) the spoiler discussions really are misleading and unnecessarily distressing, and (2) I am determined to win a hot luscious Freedom Kiss for the Spoiler Free from Ultimate Drew. He promised.

Just wanted to mention a well-known spoilerific source to AVOID, AVOID, AVOID, and that's the good ol' "TV Guide". God, they are lame.
