timepiececlockSo, I set my VCR and forwent the series finale of Farscape in favor of dining out mexican food and a second viewing of Chicago.
I loved it the second time around, but not quite as much as the first. Thewonder razzle-dazzlement was not so new, and so it was more a familiar grin-inducing piece of entertainment thant the "WOW!! OMG!!" of the first time. In this it was different than Moulin Rouge, which consistantly astounded me after at least a dozen viewings.
Chicago was, though, technically amazing. It was smartly written with a tight screenplay, and beautifully acted. Also, supremely entertaining. That's the whole motif of the film in fact-- it's all a show, that three-ringed circus.
Seeing it again, I have to reiterrate my initial impressions:
- The jail song "He Had It Coming" was my favorite number.
- John C. Reilly deserves his supporting actor Academy Award. His 'sad clown' performance was just perfect.
- Queen Latifah was big, black, and sexy as hell. Congrats on her for getting the part and making it so much her own. I really hope she wins. Her gold costume was to die for.
- Richard Gere deserves some kind of award for this. I dont' know what kind, but he deserves one. This role seemed to be written for him, and it was a perfect match of casting & character.
- Renee Zelleweger was skinny as hell and twice as cute. I wanted to shove some cake down her throat and then hand her the Oscar.
- Catherine Zeta Jones has all that jazz. ^_^
- the puppet scene was funny, but not as funny as every time someone got John C. Reilly character's name wrong or forgot he was in the room.

Date: 2003-03-22 12:15 am (UTC)I've never heard her rap-- I've only seen her do jazzy stuff in this and that film 'Living Out Loud'. But my mom just got the soundtrack, so I guess I'll see.
That's why my vote's for Catherine, by proxy as well as for talent. Because, as you said, she has all that jazz.
I forgot she was up too! Damn. Now I'm torn.

In addition to the musical numbers included in the film, there's also "I Move On," the song (aired during the credits) which was nominated for Best Original Song, as well as two Danny Elfman instrumental jazz pieces.
It makes me want to bob my hair and do the Charleston.

Speaking of hair, wasn't the costuming, hair, and make-up fabulous in this movie? It was all so realistic and authentic looking.
