How is it that I can love the songs a band puts out, and listen to them repeatedly, even while I think the singer has a terrible voice? I guess it's just that he keeps writing songs that actually work with a voice like his.

I love how he does the line "And if I catch it comin' back my way"...I just love it.

The thing about Jack White's voice, as a recent article in SPIN said, is that he can sound like a snotty British punk on one song, a love-struck nine-year-old on another, and a brassy blues dame on the next. His voice may be raw, but it works so well. And if you listen to songs like "We're Going to be Friends" and "This Protector" (among others) you'll hear that he can sing softer and more melodic.

Do you have their previous album? I bought "White Blood Cells" around this time last year, and fell in love with it. I had heard the single, and expected the album to be mostly the same, but the range surprised me. "Hotel Yorba" is the kitschy-est country rock I've heard, and then it's followed with the bluesy "Gentleman".

I don't have "Elephant" yet, but I expect the same eclectic style and wonderful guitar/drum combinations.

Er...so, in conclusion? I love the White Stripes.

I don't have either album yet. But I'm seriously pondering. Of course... the more people who tell me that they love it, the more likely I am to purchase.

It's a difficult album. Moreso than White Blood Cells. If you're thinking pure rock and roll, fuggedaboudit. I'm still trying to decide whether or not I like Elephant or not. I'll admit, I picked it up because I loved the fact that Jack emulated the bass line with a guitar. A fucking guitar. That's just too cool not to pass up :)

I don't either album yet, but I've been trying to decide if I want to get one. So far I've downloaded a lot fo their songs.

Get White Blood Cells then. It's the easier of the two to get into.
