I figured out why I like the Josh Lyman character so much on The West Wing. It's because Josh is really Mulder from the XF. That's right. He's exactly what Fox Mulder would have been like had his sister not been kidnapped earl, had he not then become obsessed with the paranormal, and had he chosen politics instead of criminalogy.
TV parental watching, episode # 6:
Got my mom to sit down and watch my tape of last week's BTVS last night. Told her I had only seen half of it, a blatant lie of course. I'd watched about 4 times already. But she said sure, and went "EEEEWWW!" and stuff for the Xander part and laughed at some of the good lines. She didn't make a comment about naked!Spike scene, but I think that's just because she was too wrapt up in watching it. Heh. I did have to give a brief run-down of the Faith stuff. She loved the Vulcan/Vulcanologist Andrew joke, which was the funniest part of the whole episode.
Other:
I had this crazy idea about a fanfic. One of the many, many plot bunnies that surface in my cerebral cortex, likely to be abandonned or never begun.
Buffy The Vampire Slayer / Trigun crossover fic.
So we’re on the deserty planet of Trigun. It’s who know how many years in the future... according to Trigun canon the planet was colonized about 130 years ago, and it was the first human colony, so let’s say... 250-300 years from present times.
Vash the Stampede, also known as The Humanoid Typhoon, is wandering the world, constantly being chased by bounty hunters. In that series, timeline set somewhere before everything goes to bug all hell in Augusta.
Spike, the vampire with a soul (::still snickers at saying that::), is also wandering the world. But he’s not just wandering, he’s actively searching for Vash. Not because he was $$60,000,000,000 reward, but because Vash (being immortal and young when the colonists arrived) knows the old technology, and can help him locate one of the lost colony ships… where Buffy waits, trapped in the cold-sleep suspension that all the colonists were put under when they traveled to the new world.
Say that Spike and Buffy (who would be immortal here… either a vampire w/ a soul too, or just had been resurrected as immortal from season 6... things like becoming immortal just arbitrarily happen in Buffyverse anyway, so it’s not a stretch...but I need her around, however it’s arranged), decide to join the idealistic colony separatists that leave the dying earth, and hope that they can endure in the new world as a force battling any malevolent demons that might have decided to also tag along and establish themselves in the colony. You could also twist in some serious angst if you wanted about the disillusionment of human idealism as they watched the people of earth destroy their own planet, all that stuff that was heavily suggested by Rem’s character.
Anyway, back when the ships finally approached the new planet, and Knives triggered all the colony ships to crash, killing the majority of the colonists before they even landed, what if melee Spike got woken up and saved, but Buffy was stuck? What if, when the myriad colony ships fell to the planet, the one she was in was lost like so many others? What if Spike knew she was alive somewhere out there, still in frozen-sleep in a pod, suspended animation and whatever, and he was left lost and alone in the now desperately-trying-to-survive colony, with the technology destroyed and no way to locate the ship with Buffy?
So Spike hears about Vash, makes the connections through long research (breaking into Bernardelli offices?) that the famous outlaw is older than natural, that he might be able to help him find the ship to wake up Buffy, whose now been asleep for over 130 years that Spike has been alone on the planet, searching?
How would Spike and Vash interact? There’s two guys with the same general body types and coloring and but who have absolutely nothing in common except a great desire to be loved and to fixate one woman in their life. How would a Spike whose spent 130 years alone searching a desert world (not a healthy place for vamps) for his lost love be changed, and how would that compare to the Buffy that they eventually find and wake up? How would Vash react to vampires, and how would the existence of demons affect his pacifistic no-killing-of-anything outlook on life?
C’mon...
automatedalice_... you love Trigun, you love BtVS, you love Spike & Spuffy... Think you could do this? I could keep coming up with these, you know. Keep suggesting new ways to cross the two shows until you inevitably give in...

Date: 2003-04-23 12:09 pm (UTC)Yeah, but... I like Meryl. And I've kind of always felt like she deserves some Vash lovin' after all she's been through, just like I think Spike finally deserves some love.
