I rented & watched 'Monsters Inc.'

Yeah, it was amusing, and yeah, it was pretty cute. I loved the 'door' concept, and the factory caverns fulls of doors flying around like dominoes on wires.

Still thought 'Shrek' was better, overall. I mean, nothing beats an animated family movie with the lines:

[looks at huge castle built by very short prince]
"Shrek says he's compensating for something. That means he's got a really--"

::snicker:: Yeah, that was good. So was the interrogation of the gingerbread man. ::chuckle::

I also thought the moral of 'Shrek' was a better one, more fleshed out and better delivered. Though I don't watch movies for the moral lessons, if one is presented to me, I like it to be subtle, appropriate, and worthwhile. Not that Monsters Inc.'s wasn't-- Shrek was just a little better.

Monsters Inc. was good though. Entertaining.

And I would reccomend that you rent or buy the DVD. Not however, for the actual movie 'Monsters Inc.'

No, you should rent it for the animated short, 'For The Birds'.

Which is the funniest animated/short film I've EVER seen, including cartoons.

It was just... adorable. Hilarious. Cute. It has a moral too-- people who tease others get their just deserves in the end.

And did I mention cute? And... a little nasty. In that snicker/chortle kind of way.

I was watching it with my mom & dad, and we couldn't stop laughing. It was SO funny. And the animation was very very cool too. So good, in fact, that you're immediately sucked in & don't even think about it, because you're so busy laughing at the antics of the birds.

It very, very much deserved the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film.

I'm downloading it now, for my computer. You guys should too, or get Monsters Inc. to see it.

There's something in the imagery of these lyrics that appeals to me, to my lyrical, artistic side. I like to listen to the version by Sting, from the film The Thomas Crown Affair.

The Windmills Of Your Mind

Round
Like a circle in a spiral
Like a wheel within a wheel
Never ending or beginning
On an ever-spinning reel
Like a snowball down a mountain
Or a carnival balloon
Like a carousel that's turning
Running rings around the moon
Like a clock whose hands are sweeping
Past the minutes of its face
And the world is like an apple
Whirling silently in space
Like the circles that you find
In the windmills of your mind

Like a tunnel that you follow
To a tunnel of its own
Down a hollow to a cavern
Where the sun has never shone
Like a door that keeps revolving
In a half-forgotten dream
Or the ripples from a pebble
Someone tosses in a stream
Like a clock whose hands are sweeping
Past the minutes of its face
And the world is like an apple
Whirling silently in space
Like the circles that you find
In the windmills of your mind

Keys that jingle in your pocket
Words that jangle in your head
Why did summer go so quickly?
Was it something that you said?
Lovers walk along a shore
And leave their footprints in the sand
Is the sound of distant drumming
Just the fingers of your hand?
Pictures hanging in a hallway
And the fragment of a song
Half-remembered names and faces
But to whom do they belong?

When you knew that it was over
You were suddenly aware
That the autumn leaves were turning
To the colour of her hair

Like a circle in a spiral
Like a wheel within a wheel
Never ending or beginning
On an ever-spinning reel
As the images unwind
Like the circles that you find
In the windmills of your mind

Was reading an early chapter of an intriguing, well-written InuYasha / Sailor Moon crossover (http://www.fanfiction.net/read.php?storyid=644412/), and I happened upon the line “There’s a spike.” I of course did a double-take and had to reread to check. Turns out they just meant the literal, sharp&point-thing meaning of the word. Not, sadly, a sexy/soul-crazy vampire.

::long sigh:: I'm so deep into Buffy fandom its sad. And it's totally cramping my anime!fic, whenever I actually get to reading that, these days.

::whines:: But, ya know, Spike. You just can't turn that kind of fandom off.
