I've finally cracked.

I've found an intense liking for what someone told me was "the worst of LotR sins":

Legolas/OC romance.

So far, I've really enjoyed "Stardust" by RiikiTikiTavi
and "The Caverns of Mirkwood" by Nebride.

It's a sick sad world, and I'm a sick sad girl. ^_^

Can't. Stop. Laughing.

This is the best satire of a Mary Sue fic I've EVER read.

I love how everyone keeps getting the name mixed up. And the hair color. This is just way too funny.

It's written for LotR, but it makes sense for Self Insertions of ANY fandom.

Just... just way too funny. snippet )

I was cruising through some older reviews I had on ff.net, and I saw a signed review for "One Step Down From Love". It was unfamiliar to me, and written in August, which was before ff.net reinstated the automatic email reviews.

She said I was a good enough writer, but criticized me for writing a sympathetic, affectionate-when-spike's-not-awake-to-see Buffy, saying...

"Maybe this will help you in future attempts at writing this pairing. Because the thing about Buffy/Spike is that it's a dark pairing. Happy, cutsey, post-coital stuff just doesn't work with the characters..."

I was kind of baffled for a minute, until I checked the date, and remembered that I posted that fic back in January. It was written after Wrecked, and placed sometime in the near future. "Future attempts"? This fic is so old in in fandom-time, it has no bearing on what I write now.

Then I wanted to laugh at her, because as far back as Wrecked we had no IDEA what Buffy/Spike was gonna be like. Well, I certainly didn't. Unspoiled. For all I knew when I wrote that, they'd get over their differences in a few months and be happy, or at least semi-content (back when I drastically overestimated the maturity of all the BtVS characters and believed they would sort out their problems instead of doubly-fucking themselves over). And my fic DIDN'T even have them sugary-in love, it was freakin' titled as something less than love.

I don't get why she'd deliberately read an 8th month old fic and then chastise me for improper characterization, characterization I may know now, but certainly didn't know then. Like I'm supposed to feel bad that she can read my fic with perfect hindsight, then say its wrong?

I was gonna email her to express these opinions, until I looked at her fic list and bio.

No way am I going to bother writing back to discuss my "way off base" characterization with a B/X girl who writes Buffy/Doyle.

I've got better things to do. Like clean my room. Write B/S fic. Laugh at B/Xers.

Ok I really liked this meme that everyone else is doing. Though I still have NO fucking idea what the word "meme" means, only a vague concept of its LJ-practical application.

Because I have 70+ fics in a bunch different fandoms, I'm only going to put up those ones for BtVS. That's minus the two single-chapter WIPs I have up and will never finish.

And just so you know-- I never claimed to be good at the poems. I write them is all.

There ya go. :)

new favorite quote:

"A ship in port is safe, but this is not what ships are built for."

-Grace Hopper

This makes me want to go sailing again, even though we went a few days ago on New Year's. But there was hardly any wind! It doesn't count. That's what you get for not getting out of the estuary and into the frickin' bay.

I'm going to buy a Hobie Cat when I get older, and live on my own, and have money.

For those not sailing geeks, a Hobie Cat is a type of small double-hulls boats (called catamarans), invented by a guy named Hobie. They're fast, fun, and flip with the enthusiasm and frequency of pancakes on steroids.

But they're fun.

And this is also something that I'm going to require about any man I plan to marry: they either have to like boats, or have the active willingness to learn to like them. Because I love boats, and my kids are going to be exposed to boats, and I'm going to buy boats, and that's how it's going to be.

My favorite NewYear/Spike-rescue fic:
(as opposed to my favorite xmas vignette, which [livejournal.com profile] wisteria_ takes the cake for)

"What Reaches Up to You"
...by Ivytree

Refreshingly low on sap and does include characters that aren't Buffy & Spike.
