timepiececlock: (faye's bad day)
I'm trying to remember this Cowboy Bebop Spike/Faye fanfic I read a while ago, that was unfinished. All I remember was that it was really good, long, and had a great very important scene with Spike and unconscious!Faye hiding in supply closet while they waited for the antidote for the Syndicate poison to decide if she lived or died.

Sound familiar? I know not many of my friends list reads CB fic, but here's hoping...

....

I have browsed through some of my saved fics and since learned that the story I was thinking of was called "Deus Ex Machina" by wickedtigerlilly... unfortunately I can't check if it was updated because it doesn't seem to be available on ff.net anymore, and the author isn't register anymore either so I can't follow her profile page to see if she has the fic on a personal website.

I find this very distressing. I really wanted to read the end of it at some point.

Stephen King must really have loved The Lord of the Rings. He makes allusions to it a few times in the Dark Tower books, at least once in Insomnia, at least twice in On Writing, and more than once in numerous other stories. Sometimes, like in Insomnia, the allusions are clear and easy to identify; other times, like a brief Gollum/precious reference in On Writing, catching it relies entirely on knowledge of LotR. I can't help but wonder how much Roland's ka-tet is like a fellowship, and how much the Tower is Roland's precious. Though the people involved are quite different (and more complex, thought not any less iconistic or archetype-like) than Tolkien's fellowship members, the overall quest idea and structure presented can be very well compared to The Fellowship of the Ring. Provided, of course, that all but Frodo died the first time around and now the Rinbearer is on his second set of friends, all of whom are insertions from our world and some of whom have Big Serious Bad Issues. Also providing that one-sentence very evil Return of the King spoiler ).

One of the things I love about The Dark Tower books and King's books in general (I've read probably a mere quarter of them) is how he ties things together, and alludes to things, equally his own work and the works of others. I especially love how he doesn't just talk about them, instead half of his allusions seem to say that all these great things co-exist within the world he's giving you, if you only look hard enough. The Dark Tower books are the epitome of that, as the basic idea of the Tower states that all worlds and universes are connected, and that fits so nicely with the idea that all these worlds created in novels also exist somewhere on another level of the Beam, which is why legends and stories in our world might be history in Mid-World, and likewise. As a fan of sci-fi/fantasy in any medium, you can imagine the appeal this concept has for me, in the pure scope it presents.

Side note: my late grandfather was named Roland. Neat, huh?

I found this delightful little webpage of Spuffy fanfiction and have spent the last 2 hours or so reading off it:

I'm never going to get tired of this pairing, you know? I don't read fanfic for a while, a week, two weeks... but I always come back. It's my ship, but also my addiction.

I watched an online trailer for a new film called Two Brothers:

My first reaction was: OMG! GUY PIERCE WITH HIS AUSTRALIAN ACCENT!

My second reaction was: Hey, did they crib that music from Draco's death scene---

--- in Dragon Heart? Yes, they did, they did.

C'mon. How many of you HP people looked on that one, hmmmm?

So was watching a Return of the King TV spot ad that I hadn't seen before wiht all different clips than the other trailers (here), and I once again got shivers up and down my arms and mammoth excited grin on my face. Anyone who has to ask "why would you care about a 30 second trailer when you've seen the film twice?" is a baka for asking such a stupid question.

Some film trailers of new films that I found enjoyable:

http://www.apple.com/trailers/fox/man_on_fire/
-This looks very good. Denzel Washington. Cute blond child with eyes like Tsukino Usagi's, if Usagi were real and not an anime character. I think when she grows up a bit more, she'll be a good Luna Lovegood for the 5th HP movie. Dramatic plot, very good trailer (if slightly to revealing) that makes me interested in the characters already.

-This is the one I mentioned earlier-- Guy Pierce! Wheeee!!!

-Funny mostly for the very last clip.

-I admit, Ashley Judd has been a girl!crush of my moviegoing mind since that movie she did with Hugh Jackman and the cows.

-mindless fluff created for every girl who secretly has a crush on Prince William of the UK. Sign me up.

-- I have no idea what this is about, which I suppose mean's I'll have to get around to watching Pitch Black someday...

-Adam Sandler's other movie with Drew Barrymore, The Wedding Singer, turned out much better (and more endearing) than I expected it to be based on the trailers. I'm hoping it will be the same for this film, even though I don't like his hair much when it's cut that close to his head. If this movie's good, then they could be like the slapstick version of Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan, always making romantic comedies together.

-another creepy one from the maker of Signs. Always good for a shiver.

http://www.themoviebox.net/movies/2004/IJKLM/Mindhunters/trailer-page.html
- fun FBI psycho training cop profiler action movie! With Val Kilmer in cameos with bad hair. With LL Cool J with no hair, and of course all the better for it.

-This one looks realy, really good. And hey, half-naked man guaranteed, at least once.

http://www.themoviebox.net/movies/2004/STUVWXYZ/Thunderbirds/trailer-page.html
-Great opening. Corniest space costumes ever. Big explosions. Fruit-colored spaceships. Huzzah!

-oooohh... this looks cool. Artsy western/fantasy. I has some familiar faces, one of which is that creepy, long-faced guy from Brotherhood of the Wolf. In some scenes he looks attractive... in some scenes he looks ugly. Either way, his face is interesting. The most interesting thing about this trailer though is that I spent the time when they used a Native American language trying to mentally translate the French subtitles. I got about half... not bad for not using my French in 3 years and never being all that great in the first place.

What happened to the scrubbing bubbles amulet after Spike reappeared from it? Who/what has it now?
