There's a lot of bands coming out right now that seem to have this mock-70s classic style. Only, overloaded with production.
The Strokes. By far the worst. Also The Shins, and the....the.... hell. The "the" bands. I can't remember them or tell them apart. You've got to know what I'm talking about.
Only ones that I can tell apart are The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, even though I don't like their single "Maps" it doesn't quite fall into the category above. And The White Stripes, which I like quite a bit and also don't fall into the category above at all.
Anyway, the "the" bands. I hate them. It's so... retro. I mean, jesus, if I wanted to listen to bad rip-offs of classic rock style, I'd dig out my parents CDs of Wings, The Eagles, Simon & Garfunkel, The Beatles, and so on and listen to the real thing. But you'll notice I don't. Because that music is old and it's my parents and I really have to be a certain mood for it. I DON'T need to hear it on the radio every day. I'll take even emo over that any day, because at least it's original. Metallica. NIN. A Perfect Circle. The Foo Fighters. The Offspring. Audioslave. Chevelle. Seether. Even frickin' Nickelback, which has annoyed me ever since "Hero" is more tolerable than this.
And The Darkness. Oh lord, do I hate The Darkness. Really, really can't stand it. Makes me want to claw at my radio to get it to stop, please stop. The only other thing that can get a reaction like that out me is Eminem butchering Aerosmith music.
