timepiececlock: (S/B kissed me quite insane -<lj user=buf)
This afternoon ShakaDada tried to cancel our subscription to HBO and, in a state of weakness, succumbed to a really good deal for Showtime instead. As a happy result, I now get to watch Dead Like Me, a show I was interested in from when I read reviews of it. As another happy accident, tonight's episode turned out to be the pilot!

One episode and I'm attached. Good tv does that to you. Is it perfect? I dunno. But I was entertained and amused and never felt like the writers thought I was stupid. And I liked the characters, I liked the sarcastic but not heartless humor, and I liked the visual appeal. The guy Mason was hot, in an ATS!Doyle kind of way. Cuter, actually, all respects to the dead mind you. Kind of whacked, but cute. And I'm a sucker for an accent.

I liked the frog introduction, but I'd never heard that story before, except possibly as a warped version of the Greek story of Pandora.

enjoyable scene, paraphrased:

"The ones in the red folder."
"I couldn't find them."
"Files don't just disappear."
::mumbles:: "They do if they fall down an elevator shaft."
"You dropped them down the elevator?"
"...no."
"..."
"..."
"Which elevator?"
"Middle one." ::runs away::

EDIT: Dammit! There's not even a category for this show up on ff.net, and it's run a full season already! What's wrong with people in fandom? I need fic dammit!

I just added this to my list of LJ interests:

piratesofthecuhribbeannotcaeribbean

Because you know, everyone in that movie pronounces it the weird way. It's odd, because I do it too. If I'm talking about the place I tend to say "cuh-rib-be-an" but if I'm talking about the movie, I weirdly say "caer-i-be-an." I've decided this is weird, especially since I've heard other people do it too and I've seen some people mention it before.

Anyway, if someone else is interested in this, then it will get a nifty looking underline on our info pages, and become a link.

::squeeing::

So it turns out that Mala, who once upon a time wrote a bunch of Spike/Buffy fic, has written a tiny bit of Dead Like Me fic.

I went into an outlet art store today. The experience was remarkably like going to one of those outrageously huge chain bookstores.

Oh my god, these brushes are so soft! Are those 8 different brands of oil pastels?! OOohhh look look! --artist markers that are worth more than my first-born child!!!

How much am I allowed to spend again?
