FMA episode 3 in English
Nov. 21st, 2004 12:36 amMy head's a buzzing.
I think I am starting to fall in love with this dub. I'm already sold on Al, and I was sold on Pinako as soon as she started yelling. I'm getting used to Ed fast enough, and Winry I think I'll be used to as soon as we see more of her.
There were some dialogue lines expanded a bit, but nothing that detracted from the episode, I felt. I loved Pinako's vicious use of the word "State" when yelling at Roy. And Roy's comment about their father dropping a rung on his priority list was smoothly inserted.
And now to the important part... ROY MUSTANG'S VOICE!
I was surprised. It was *not* what I expected, but at the same time, I liked it. It was deeper, somehow, and a lot more masculine than the Japanese version (which I hadn't thought to be particularly un-masculine or anything), but I like it so far. It did sound a bit older than I imagine Roy to sound, but then again he's approximately 26 or something here, and 29 or 30 in the main timeline. I can imagine that voice as 29 or 30. It'll all come down to how good Travis Willingham can do the smirking asshole lines. Those are of primary importance. He already sounded a bit sardonic here, but can he be a smirky bastard? We'll see. I'm not really worried about the dramatic lines-- something tells me this guy's voice will be well-suited to those. Even now I can almost picture him doing the monologue from episode 43.
In fact, if I didn't have this abysmal headache I've been getting for the last 10 minutes, I'd stay up till 3am to watch it again just for his lines. You know, just to make sure.
Just to, you know, double check that it's okay.
