I've thought about it, and I've decided that Mahou Shoujotai Alice aka Tweeny Witches, is the mostly beautifully animated made-for-television anime that I've ever watched. With every episode I stare at the landscapes, the character designs, the fluidity of motion, the FRAMING! God, I know a show is pretty if it's making me remember terms like "framing". I mean, Samurai Champloo was very pretty to look at, but it wasn't this pretty. And it varied too much from episode to episode. Mahou Shoujotai Alice, however... I could watch this show for hours and never would my eyes be bored. Also, the integration of computer graphics and computerized animation with cell animation (if that is cell animation?) is seemless. Utterly seemless.

For the landscapes, it's easy to explain: they're beautiful and detailed and breathtaking. For the character designs, it's more difficult to describe why I love the look of this series so much. It's just... it's very distinctive. The characters have a very distinctive design that stands out from the conventional anime "look", and the expressions these characters get are amazing. None of them are quite as facially emotive as Edward Elric of FMA (but then, who could be?), but they're pretty damn distinctive.

Distinctive seems to be a word I keep coming back to. Distinctive, and beautiful. I don't think I've ever seen anime this beautifully presented that wasn't a full length feature film with a film-sized budget.

If you've read the new Harry Potter book, or if you are simply open to spoilers, go to this post.

Scroll to the bottom. The rest of it is funny, but the last part is the best. Seriously. My mouth is momentarily stuck in this insane grin of happy fannish glee. The kind of specific fannish glee you only really get from, well, little things like this.

Since after the fiftieth time of trying I am still unable to get either Adobe Premiere Pro or Vegas Video to play anything but a blank black screen for avi files, I've decided to try Windows Movie Maker.

So far I find the clip cutting system simple and clear enough, but the audio song I imported sounds really garbled.

Also, pairing clips with music is already proving a dauting prospect in practical application.
