IMHO...In my humble opinion...
May. 11th, 2003 12:21 amI hate acronyms.
Let me state that a little clearer-- I hate acronyms.
Someone throws a series of letters out at me during conversation. I want nothing more than to scream at them "I DON'T FUCKING KNOW WHAT XGT OR BFI OR MZT OR SKL or LAX is so SPEAK FUCKING ENGLISH IF YOU WANT TO TALK TO ME!"
These are the acronyms I use regulary:
brb= be right back
FE= first evil
BTVS= Buffy the vamprie slayer
XF= x files
ME= Mutant Enemy
SARS= big evil epidemic
AIDS= bigger eviler epidemic
STDs= sexually transmitted dieseases
IRS= internal revenue service
MSN= microsoft network
LotR= Lord of the Rings
USA= united states of america
LOL= laugh out loud
:g:= grin
XO= executive officer
SiTs= Slayers in Training
DBZ= dragonball Z
JM= James Marsters
LJ= Live journal
ETA= edited to add or estimated time of arrival
If I ruled the world...
I'd get rid of most acronyms. At least among English speakers. Anything that's not the ones listed above, I'd instate laws that asked people to please pronounce each word carefully, as if speaking to a small child. Not only will this make me able to understand you, but it will surely reinforce vocabulary and greater understanding of what it is you're actually talking about. Or, if they absolutely must be used, it would be forbidden to shorten anything unless you've already stated the full phrase earlier in the paragraph/ conversation, and then indicate that said phrase with be henceforth known as "...", and that acronym will only be used for the duration of that paragraph or conversation.
But sadly, I do not rule the world.
ETA: This is somewhat of an irrational anger, as it's not something I can really change, and is almost a pointless gripe to have when you're involved in something like fandom or internet stuff where such travesties are inevitable even in one's own behavior if you're there long enough... but this is my journal, and I'm venting. I hate acronyms.

Re: your words and sexuals acts have revived my memory...
Date: 2003-05-12 09:14 am (UTC)Yeah, very cool crossovery goodness. Sure, I'll write one...I just need the ability to complete a story(not just get the beginning and the end , middle and end,or beginning and middle). Wolfwood, so cool...but he's gone *sob*. Vash definitely adorable and tormented. Poor guy want to save everybody. Oooh! Yea, that was neat. I lurve backstory.
Last episode they showed was the one with Legato's death. Definitly plan on watching it from the beginning once it restarts....Wolfwood and Legato will be un-dead, but not undead like Vampire undead...just not dead...yet.
Re: your words and sexuals acts have revived my memory...
Date: 2003-05-12 10:56 am (UTC)Wh, I see we suffer the same sort of writing problem! That's the exact reason I haven't written one. I found a good one once, but the only Btvs character was Angel. It wasn't B/A particularly, since he was the only one there, and it was nicely written, but I want one with Spike, dammit.
Last episode they showed was the one with Legato's death.
Oh, then you haven't seen the end yet! It's good. So... are you a VashxMeryl shipper or a WolfwoodxVash shipper or into the squickiness that is "twincest" ::shudder:: Wait, don't answer that until you see the last two episodes this week. I'm personally a VxM shipper, but everyone has their take.

Yeah. Did you see the episode where Legato is introduced? That has the scariest moment in Trigun and the funniest moment, one after another. The scariest moment is when Legato first shows up. I was watching it late at night on DVD with a friend (

Date: 2003-05-12 10:57 am (UTC)But truly, Wolfwood is my babe. He's my man-bitch.

Date: 2003-05-12 12:03 pm (UTC)Damn! Could we somehow bribe
Nope, didn't see the end yet.Evil cartoon network not showing it on the weekend, making me wait.Hey, wait! What do you mean two last episodes? There's only two more?!
No, no twincest cause ew.
Did you see the episode where Legato is introduced? That has the scariest moment in Trigun and the funniest moment, one after another.
I didn't see that one yet. Squee! Scary and funny! Coolness.
Now I'm drooling over the DVD set...expensive DVD set. Pretty DVD set.

There's only two more?!
one season only. 26 episodes. but there's some really potent, long, killer fanfiction out there that I could point you to. Not as much as Buffyfandom, but a few really good ones.
Several anime series (Cowboy Bebop, Escaflowne (thebest EVER!), and Trigun) have only one episode. Other series (like Inu Yasha, which is also on Cartoon Network, after Trigun), have 100+ episodes (though only 52 of them have been dubbed in english so far, CN is acquiring more). That's a good show too, though not as good as the three above... especially since the dubbing on IY has ruined a lot of the funny lines to be just stupid or insipid.

The DVDs have few extras (only lots of character sketches, imag stills, and image galleries--- but very pretty page design), but they are so much better than watching it on tv. For one thing, they're not edited. Some of the violence is cut out for CN. I haven't watched much of it there so I don't know what was cut out yet. But I know my friend is watching it and she's getting annoyed. The DVDs have both English and Japanese (subtitled), and I personally will only watch the Wolfwood episode (#23) in subtitled. It's so much more powerful in japanese... the voice-acting was better and I was all near to crying.
I have t

Date: 2003-05-12 03:27 pm (UTC)Let's get her drunk and make her promise. We'll get it in writing, have her sign something!
Does CN play Escaflowne? I'm hunting for lots and lots of stuff to fill the void Buffy will leave. Anything and everything I can attach myself to.
Most of this afternoon has been spent arguing with myself...
I'm going to go to Best Buy and buy the DVDs.
No, I'm not.
Yes, I am.
No, I'm not.
Brain whispers, "You can make icons, lots and lots of icons if you have the DVDs."
Yes, I am.
I have no willpower. *runs off to Best Buy*
Re: your words and sexuals acts have revived my memory...
Date: 2003-05-12 05:29 pm (UTC)I've started an addiction. You'll hate me later. You can't just get into Trigun-- you'll seep into the rest of it too. Anime is a fandom entire, that includes sub-fandoms for series like Trigun or Esca. But I can point you to the cool ones right off. So can
Re: your words and sexuals acts have revived my memory...
Date: 2003-05-12 05:43 pm (UTC)No. It played on Fox Kids for a while, but it had to be butchered and ripped to pieces and taped back together wrong in order to make it ok for little kiddies. It's a teen+ show. Excellent though. The full title is The Vision of Escaflowne (difficult to explain the title-- it's part of the plot) The DVDs (available under just 'Escaflowne') are uncut and dual-language, and you can get uncut VHS tapes too (just not the ones labeled Fox Channel). Esca is like... Alice in Wonderland meets giant robots meets fantasy-novel type Rennaissance age meets psychic girl meets Atlantis legend meets great love story. The music is beautiful, the animation art is very good (you get used to the character designs fast), the plot is swift and the characters and character relationships are the most important part, well drawn and developed over the course of events. And very rich and complex. Also, this has the sweetest love story. A love story that takes the whole 26 episodes to get to, but is just great when finally finished. Damn, this is making me want to watch it again.... I have the first half on DVDs and the second half I watched from the public library in subtitled.
There is an Esca movie out. Whatever you do, don't go near it. Instead of continuing the show, they take a very complex plot that stretched over 22 episodes and try to shove it into an hour and a half. It's horrid. And the chracters are all different and wrong. When I compare it to the series, I pretend I never saw it.
Re: your words and sexuals acts have revived my memory...
Date: 2003-05-12 08:05 pm (UTC)Hee! But I lurve addictions. It means the cable bill for this fancy digital cable thingy is worth it.
Oooh! Direct me to the cool ones! Then I'll be directing myself to BitTorrent sites to find episodes of the cool ones.

Nifty. *adds to must check out list*
*Also makes note to avoid movie like the plague*
