"What doesn't kill us makes us stronger."
*

I just watched episode 13 of Hellsing. That's the final one.

Now I need fic like a crack!willow needs magic. And if I can't find a Buffy/Hellsing crossover, I think I might just die right now.

Hellsing is... Hellsing. It's KICK ASS. It's not the best anime I've ever seen; in every category it comes close to the best but falls just short of ultimate. Still, it's v. v. cool. Mostly violent, with this small tweaking of parody that raises its head with bizarre things like a "four-poster coffin" or overly stylized art on the dark & stormy night backgrounds. In two particular episodes it had more cursing and most creative uses for the word "fuck" than I've ever heard in anime before, but it made total sense at the time and I loved the character who was spouting it. At moments it can be highly sexually suggestive, but only for a particular scene and not just for the sake of fan-service (except for Seras Victoria's bust, which is entirely fan-service).

My favorite character is definitely Integra Hellsing. I loved her backstory with Alucard... that was a cool episode.

I want to read some great Integra/Alucard fic now; there's a lot of unresolved sexual tension there to mine. But then again, I'm not sure any I/A smut would be worth reading, because one of the great things about watching them on screen is that you know that Integra will never let him have her. No matter how much UST she wouldn't let it happen, she's frankly too cool for that, and I like her character's strength too much to want to read a fic where she breaks down and becomes the stereotypical female. So I'm in a bind.

I think I'll go read anyway.

If I were going to write a BtVS/Hellsing crossover, I'd say that Alucard was not just a vampire but a great sorcerer too, which would explain all his weird shit. He could be, like, the boogieman.

And dude... did that insane Vatican character not look exactly like a psychotic Vash the Stampede on steroids?

I found a Hellsing MessageBoard: http://vampirehouse.suddenlaunch2.com/index.cgi

EDIT 1: Oh, and to think of all the possible Hihglander crossovers?! It makes me weep to know that this show will never air on Cartoon Network, even at 1 am.

EDIT 2: You know, there's a lot of layers to the ethics in this show. If I had the time, I'd write an essay comparing the morality of Vampires in Hellsing to Vampires in BuffyTVS. It'd be 20 pages.

EDIT 3: It's as I expected. There's only about 230 Hellsing fics on ff.net, and most of them suck dead rotten eggs. There is a decent one here, though.

Heh. Figured you'd like it.

Now you know why I'm hankering for a BTVS/Hellsing crossover. I think it could be done, especially if the Freak chip origins could be linked to....

The Intiative...

Sunnydale...

...and a certain vampire the government took DNA and other data from to create their pseudo-vamp experiments - intending to create another group of superhuman military puppets.

Except it all went wrong.

Besides, a meeting of Integra/Alucard and Buffy/Spike would be amusing, especially how similar their relationship dynamics are.

Integra loathes Alucard. She doesn't trust him. She uses him. And yet, she's inexplicably bound to him.

It would be great fun.

Oh my GOD! I hadn't evne thought of that! That's beautiful, dude.

Totally. Mostly, I'd love to see what Alucard thought of Spike... he'd probably laugh his head off at Spike's problems and tell him to grow up.

I've decided that Alucard was what you'd get if you took Spike, Wesley, and Willow and molded them into one person, and then aged that person about 2000 years.

Integra loathes Alucard. She doesn't trust him. She uses him. And yet, she's inexplicably bound to him.

See, I think she does like him a little. They share the same sense of humor. I'd say she trusts him implicitly as her servant, and not at all as a friend or possible romantic interest. And she so has daddy issues. However, unlike Buffy's daddy issues which are from abandonment, hers are from hero-worship.
