DivX, Realplayer, and codecs

Now this is weird.

I was playing something on RealOnePlayer, which has worked well for me for a while now.

Then I installed Kazaa, and that accidentally gave me a different version of DivX than the one I had.

Then I got rid of Kazaa. But now RealOnePlayer won't play the same files. So I have to get an updated version of DivX. I get the R1P-suggested version of DivX 5.0.5.

Now I get picture, but no sound. And the Real One Player website says this is an error with my file.

But I know my file worked fine this morning.

I think I'm going to try to do that back-erase thing where I can reset all the programs in my computer to the way they were yesterday. I'll have to reinstall Kazaa-Lite, but I wasn't getting much out of it anyway.

EDIT: Dammit! I did the "Sytem Restore" thing, and it still says "Some of the streams in this movie are in an unsupported format." It was playing this file this MORNING! And now it won't play sound for any of the other movie files that I downloaded from the same source. Fuck.

It sounds like the problem is with the codec. I would suggest either installing the Kazaa Lite Codec Pack (which I use and is pretty comprehensive) or finding the latest Nimo Codec Pack.

By the way, codecs are the system files that tell the programs like Windows Media Player, etc., how to play the file you want to see. You need the latest codec to see the latest movies and shows.

Also, as far as I know the Kazaa Lite Codec Pack is just that - codecs, not anything to do with Kazaa, the download program. I don't even use Kazaa (anymore).
