Jul. 14th, 2003 11:23 pmSo I was exploring various parts of fictionalley.org looking at all the Harry Potter fandom discussion [[originially in an effort to find out if Hermione had a blood type identified in the books : I was thinking of a scene where Draco calls Hermione a Mudblood, and she finally snaps and yells "I'll have you know I've got GREAT blood! It's o-negative and pristine clean! My blood could save your life, jerk!"... just a thought ]] when I happened across this thread:

It's Harry/Ginny shippers arguing with Harry/Hermione shippers about why Ginny had a 3 year crush and then suddenly stopped in book 5.
I had to reply and say "Um, maybe because she was just ELEVEN to FOURTEEN, and it was not quite True True True Love, but maybe pershaps, a CRUSH?"
In longer, more sophisticated (I hope) phrasing.
It's really funny reading about the shippers go at each other, though, especially since I agree with neither (though if I had to pick it'd be Hermione-- at least he actually knows well and likes Hermione as opposed to Ginny whom he's not close to at all.) The Harry/Ginny shippers vaguely reminded me of Buffy/Angel shippers who argued that Joss and ME was "wrong" and "mistaken" when he broke up the pairing. These guys sounded on the verge of saying "Rowling got it wrong! It's this way!" Which is just funny, since it's her book and her way is the actual way.
**Shaka takes a moment to bask in the fact that her personal BTVS ship was beautifully vindicated in the finale with the final words of the heroine being a love confession**

Date: 2003-07-15 01:01 am (UTC)::laugh:: Exactly. Everyone has their own little castle and island, and boats crossing between the islands undergo strict inquisition and are forced to prove (on risk of fandom shunning and certain death) that they truly are bi-shippers or multi-shippers, not just one particulary ship in disguise on a mission of espionage. But no one will tell where the other islands are... you have to find someone you can convince that you are a shipper, and they will lead you to whichever island of madness your heart truly seaks...
... and you hide when they cross on LJ, the desginated nuetral zone.

Date: 2003-07-15 02:43 am (UTC)Gah! My sister loves that ship and has read LOTS of fic and there's one huge fic that I know the name of but can't remember. I'll ask her. It's something like "We'll Always Have Paris."
Most of the big names I know are in Hermione/Snape and Harry/Draco (though the latter isn't one I read myself.)
