I was telling [livejournal.com profile] wisteria_ that she should spend future spare time putting music by The Tea Party into videos or icon sets for Spuffy.

In order that she might know what the heck I'm talking about, I put two songs up online for download.

I'm posting the links here; they'll be up for a few days.

The Messenger

Cathartik

If you're having trouble downloading from those links, try it here: http://www.anyanka.net/rashaka_things/

If you like good music, I recommend you download them and have a listen. If you like music that you can pair with BTVS in your head, listen. If you like cool lyrics, listen.

I originally discovered this band through a trilogy of dark/sexy S/B fanfics set in season 6:

1. Halcyon Days
2. Cathartik
3. Mantra

These are wonderful reading, short but rich.

Both songs are "rock" I guess, but the band's style is a little different. Cathartik, especially, is almost creepy in its instrumental sound. To be honest I didn't even like it at first-- I thought it sounded scary. And then I listened to it again, and the meaning and signficance began to sink it. And then I loved it: sound, words, and all. The Messenger I just adored from the outset: the song is freakin' addictive. I can listen to it on constant repeat without a worry.

I like them. Now that you mention it, they do sound rather Canadian. The way Nickelback sounds Canadian.

Urgh! I now promise to love you forever! Damn, this band is good! I am in total awe! -- Enough with the ex.points, Tiger. But, I have never heard anything this perfect before, I swear.

Anyway, um, hi, you don't know me :o). I commented once quite long ago on some Harry Potter-ramble of yours. Since then I have aquired an LJ (by angelic help from [livejournal.com profile] thehush). So, yes, I still stalk you ;o). At least now you get to stalk me back, if there's any interest there.

nice to meet you.

::accepts signed-in-blood letter of sale:: Thank you for your soul. How kind of you. :)

Damn, this band is good!

::squeal:: Aren't they?! I love them. Isn't Cathartik just PERFECT for Spike? "I never wanted to be a simple man." It's so wonderful for him.

check this out, it's an icon I made a while ago:

Yes. I am very nice that way :oD ;o)

Yes, it REALLY is! I loved it. And not just the words, but also the sounds and the build and... Everything matches Spike, I think.

And, ooh, pretty icon! But also one that makes more sense now that I've heard the song :o).

I've had the chance to listen to a few more of their songs now, and really really like Lullaby. It's really eery in the beginning. And just those first notes and you know you're gonna love it.

It's my favorite line; I adore how it's almost whispered in contrast. Also, I can imagine how Buffy qualifies as Spike's "demon" in the metaphorical sense of saying a demon is a problem that you have. Because so much of his personal/history "demons" are wrapped up in her, and yet she's kind of heaven-sent to him too, because loving her eventually leads him to a final state of grace.

I've had the chance to listen to a few more of their songs now, and really really like Lullaby.

It is good. So is Mantra and Halcyon Days. Also Heaven Coming Down and Walking Wounded are fantastic.

Thanks for putting the songs up. I've only heard The Messenger so far.

It's not what I expected at all, but it grew on me pretty quickly. I definitely feel S/B in the lyrics.

Sure! Download the other one; I was planning to take them down in two days. I'll be putting two different ones up from a different artist, both of which also work for Spuffy. :)

I know; it's kinda unique and hard to describe.

I definitely feel S/B in the lyrics.

I put The Messenger on my homemade CD for ultimate Spuffy songs. I just imaged it as one of the best Spike-to-Buffy songs I have ever heard.

especially lines like:

"take my heart please don't break it
I will crawl to your foothill"

and

"I'm not coming for the kill."

The first line is so William the Bloodyish in the manner of giving everything to her and crawling, and the last line (my favorite) is so good because it works with the whole "enemies" relationship, like he's saying he's coming for her, but not to kill her, to love her.
