Just stayed up and extra 3 hours reading the sequel to 'What She Deserves.'

go see it now: 'Lovingkindess' by Herself

Didn't like it *quite* as much as its predecessor, but that's nothing to do with writing quality, believe me. I'm just not that attached to slash, and the previously story, while also having both, had slightly more B/S. But in fics like this... the slash MATTERS. The slash changes EVERYthing. The slash becomes instrumental in understanding the B/S, which sounds weird, I know-- but once you read them you'll get it. And you can't not love Herself's original characters, because they are so very that---original.

The ending here left me... content. It was just... exactly right, in that no-promises-for-eternal-love,-but-we're-so-full-of-hope way. It was bittersweet, and yet not, because it was HAPPY too. The best kind of happy, the kind that's about life, not about romantic fantasy.

After this, and the end of the Bittersweets series--- I think that Herself tries real hard to convince her readers she's into tragedy, but deep down she's gunning for that happy ending, when everything's settled. ;) She's a sappy romantic in the end, like the rest of us. ....((And I hope to the fanfic gods that she doesn't read this and suddenly decide to never write a good ending ever again, just out of writerly spite. I'd cry.))

She just takes the deliciously long, agonizing way of pain, to get her characters to that happy place.

There's really a very short list of buffyfic writers I think, that I can't not read-- [livejournal.com profile] anniesj, [livejournal.com profile] herself_nyc, [livejournal.com profile] wisteria_, d.irge & thrombus (('Exquisite Corpse')), L.A. Ward, and Anna S.

They're the bomb.

...

I clearly read too much fanfiction if I'm becoming 'judge-y'. Oh god, I'm turning into a fic-snob.

That's it; I'm going to bed. There's rum cake waiting for me for breakfast in 6 hours. This constant reading has clearly affected my priorities. I mean really, the cake deserves more attention.

Oh yes. I like eggs. Hard-boiled eggs, cowboy eggs, fried egg on a toated sesame seed bagel w/ american cheese and a slice of sandwhich meat...

Eggs are good.

Fic Snob?

Heh. Join the club my dear. I'm horrible and I know it. Can't help it appreciate good writing and cringe when I see less than eloquent efforts.

There are writers I will stay up until 5 in the morning to read...like last night with Herself. Then there are some that I read a few paragraphs of once and will never go near again.

I'm a fic snob. It's a thing.
