**a clip with Eowyn and Aragorn appears**
MotherUnit: I still think--
Rashaka: --I know.
MotherUnit: She'd be so much---
Rashaka:-- I know.
MotherUnit: She'd understand him better.
Rashaka: It would help cement Rohan's loyalty to him.
MotherUnit: They flirt well too. It'd be better all around.
Rashaka: Definitely.
Rashaka: Think they'll change it just for the movie?
MotherUnit: They wouldn't. They'd be slaughtered for it.
Rashaka: Too bad.
MotherUnit: Yep.

Date: 2003-11-16 06:07 pm (UTC)You bet they did. Did you see that TwoTowers poster, with Arwen and Ewoyn on either side of Aragorn? They _definitely_ wanted to play with the idea of Aragorn havign a love triangle... especially because he's being being tempted by someone who, in addition to having a lot in common with him, seems so much more realistic and hopeful than Arwen.
Then again, they completed played with Arwen's character... I remember she was barely there in the books, and in the films she's a major character.
My opinion aobut this whole subject could be tainted by the fact that my mother, my father, and I all remembered the books incorrectly, and didn't find out until a heated argument with my aunt after the second movie came out that Aragorn marries Arwen-- we all thought he had married "the Rohan Princess for political reasons and couldn't have his true love." Of course by then we'd already seen enough to decide we liked her better anyway. The crazy thing is that all three of us remembered it wrong-- and we hadn't even talked about it before then so we misread the same thing, separately.
