So what if Miroku were to have his arm amputated? That would kill the whole air rip curse thing, wouldn't it? I mean, then you could toss the hand up into the air or something, let it implode in on itself, and then-- Voila! No more impending death.

I'm inclined to think it would work-- but it would still reappear in his firstborn child, because the whole thing would never have been gotten rid of, only delayed... kinda makes you wonder. What if it went on for generations? And each child, at say the age of 5, gets his hand amputated at the wrist. Just old enough that his body would be strong enough to survive the shock of the procedure, but not too old, because you don't want to risk him having it any longer than he needs too, or he could accidentally be swallowed, or swallow someone else by accident, etc.
Imagine it... a line of monks or priestesses going down for centuries, each having one hand... it'd make a great anime-like outrageous character history.
