Date: 2004-01-16 05:25 am (UTC)i thought i preferred unhappy endings. but... like you said. poor spike, etc.
very cool and all. i guess i just want more.
so... that's it for cowboy bebop?
how does that movie fit in then. i haven't seen the movie yet. does it take place somewhere before all this stuff happened, or is it set sometime after the series somehow? like... it turned out nobody died after all and they all lived happily ever after to have further adventures and...
darn me and my tendency to get interested in stuff that ends unhappily.

Date: 2004-01-16 01:54 pm (UTC)The movie is set right around episode 22-23. The climactic end for the show sort of happens between episode 24-26. The movie is so good in that it actually captures where the characters are at that point in time, instead of making it just fit in anywhere in the sequence.
You should so watch the end, though. I didn't fall truly in love with this show until I saw the last two episodes. I liked it before, but wasn't crazy about it. Then I'm like "I get it! I get it! OMG I LOVE THIS SHOW! I SO KNEW THIS WAS COMING!"
The restraint that the writers show at the end is amazing, making it far more cinematic or novel-like than anime-like.

Date: 2004-01-16 02:37 pm (UTC)that's what i'm bummed about. but really, not bummed. cuz it was very, very cool. and even if i get bummed, i do really love unhappy endings. (duh, i watch jossverse shows!)
so... that really is the finale, huh? no more bebop after that? no miraculous return of spike? maybe... some kind of magical amulet? no?
::is secretly thankful. but still bummed::
::sighs::
ok. but i haven't seen the movie yet. so i can have that to look forward to.
::sighs again. mopes::
follow the links below... trust me...

I understand perfectly. It's fantastic because it all makes sense (when I first saw it I was not suprised, really that he died, because his character was tragic and he did have a deathwish and you could wade in the foreshadowing even before what happened in this episode), and the cahracters are wonderful, but it's terrible because now he's gone! Spike is dead!
Except of course for his "miraculous return and subsequent even more downward spiral."
but i haven't seen the movie yet. so i can have that to look forward to. The movie is a bit too long in parts, and some of the philosophical talk bored me, but the fights are fantastic and the characterizations are amazing. Also there's two movie-centric characters that I loved... the villain who is supposed to parallel Spike, and a cop lady whose just fabulously cool. Like what would happen if you took Spike and Jet's personalities and combined them, and then made that person into a gorgeous kick-ass woman. She and Spike have this great hand-to-hand fight with fabulous snarky dialogue.
Would you like a copy of the CB soundtrack I'm making? It's going to have the a song for each character and location. I've already made the song list.

Date: 2004-01-16 01:46 pm (UTC)I watched carefully, too. It was only a shallow stomach wound. You can survive like half an hour wiht a stomach wound.

Date: 2004-01-16 02:40 pm (UTC)huh. i did not know that. see, that's what i get for taking so long to get into fantasy/sci-fi/anime.
and that's what i get for not seeing rotk yet (still waiting for it to get to the cheap theatres).
i can't believe i didn't know that until now.
good thing being spoiled has no effect on me. whew.

Date: 2004-01-16 03:14 pm (UTC)It's about LOTR.
All I want to say is that you cannot talk about the ending of RotK to anyone until you see it just because you think you understand a spoiler now. You don't understand. But I don't want to explain it to you, because I want you to experience it on the big screen. But I don't want you to talk to others about it, because they will inform you and alter your assumptions, and I don't believe in spoilers even if you say you're immune.
Would you promise me that you won't try to spoil yourself anymore about ROTK and that you won't mention what you think you know to anyone else? Pretty please???
