Watched episode 1-3 of Naruto. I like that the dialogue is smartly written, except for the overuse of the word "acknowledged." I like that the main character is not one-dimensional-- he is 3-dimensional brat, but a brat I'm already beginning to be charmed by. I like that the pink-haired girl has the inner self that rages to herself like any good LJ ranter. I like that she's got a bit more of a personality too. So far the blue-haired boy seems a bit of the angsty brooder bishonen cliche in the making (though really, the main character has fantastic reasons to angst and doesn't seem to be doing so, which is nice), but I have high hopes he'll prove to be more. I liked when he told what's-her-name off, which she deserved. I like that the other kids in the classes acted mostly like normal 13-year-olds, though of course a bit embellished for humor. I'm not certain how old these kids are supposed to be, but I'd guess 13-14.

The only thing that I don't like is the empty-eyed girl who seems to have a crush on Naruto. I hate it when anime characters aren't given any pupils or white shiny areas, and their eyes are just huge circles of color. That was why I could never stand to watch Revolutionary Girl Utena (the stupid plot also had somethign to do with it, but mostly it was the characters' eyes.) I hope this empty-eyed girl (whose wearing her ninja band as a collar, which just gives me the creeps and seems entirely too servile) is going to be evil or something, so she can get pounded by the pink-haired girl.
