For god knows what reason, I mildly spoiled myself by reading the tag summary for some future Angel episode...next week I think
Through flashbacks to World War II, it is revealed that Angel worked with the U.S. Navy to recover a captured German submarine with American sailors on board. The ship also has a secret cargo, a dangerous trio of vampires, including Spike (James Marsters), who were kidnapped by the Germans and forced to help the Nazis. When the sub comes under attack, Angel saves Lawson’s life by turning him into a vampire. Now, sixty years later, Lawson has arrived at Wolfram & Hart seeking revenge.
This just... seemed way too cheesy for me.
He fought against the Nazis and saved America? Angel isn't even American, he's European.
Well, ok, he's probably been hanging around here longer than my current Governor has, but still. ...Cheesy.
What happened to Angel being a total loser for 90 years or whatever, never doing anything useful, just saving puppies, running away from grateful female puppy-owneres and trying to put his own brain back together? Now he saved the world from the Big Evil Nazis? Oh please. Fanficcy. Very fanficcy. I just hope to god it's better than it sounds.
If I got any of my assumptions wrong, don't tell me so. I'll watch it eventually.

Date: 2004-02-11 04:44 pm (UTC)I'm not adverse to that idea myself, but if so I'd prefer if it was earleir rather than later. like in the 20s or 30s, but not much after that. For the canon of school hard to apply, it'd have to have the feeling of many decades.
I've always wanted a WWII flashback, but I had hoped for something a little more...civilian. Something less glamorous, more about the people during the war time from the eyes of an immortal ex-evil vampire than about the glory of politics and saving the world.
Also, I'm getting XF Triangle flashbacks. Except Triangle was funny, because Scully saved the world, not Mulder, and it was all in his head anyway. Or most of it.
