You know, it never occured to me until just now that the girl in Labyrinth was the same Jennifer Connelly actress who is in a bunch of movies lately. It's an "Oh. Huh." moment.

I watched Labyrinth once. I think I was about 12 or 13 (i.e. old enough to have a crush on Agent Mulder but also young enough to think anyone over 18 was old and gross. Except, you know, Agent Mulder-- especially when he's with Scully because that was twu wuv.) I thought it was cute, and I liked the goblins that tagged along, but I thought David Bowie was too scary to be sexy.

I kinda still think he's too scary in that movie to be sexy.

But I did like his name. Jaaaaaaaareth. Jareth is a very, very cool name. I'm a fantasy buff and so of course names that end -eth are automatically a bit cooler than most, and Jareth just sounds cool. Like Jarod, but cooler. Like it would be a hella cool name to give your kid ...if it weren't incredibly pretentious and also doom him to a life of ridicule by David Bowie fans.

I should put this movie on my Netflix list.

And I'm going to go find Labyrinth fanfic now. Nevermind that I don't remember any of the characters names and barely any plot... fanfic!

And, honestly, David Bowie in that movie is my epitome of evily sexy. That's how evil oughta be.

Mine is Spike. I've never been able to get into the glam rock thing David Bowie had going in that movie. And when I say scary, I don't mean hide-under-the-covers scary, I mean your-hair-and-make-up-squicks-me scary.

But... it seems I am alone in this opinion. C'est l'amour.

I DO understand about Spike, certainly. Absolutely. Evil. Sexy. The thing about Bowie in Labyrinth is that he manages this kind of insidious, subtle, manipulative evil sexyness. I just ignore the hair. But Spike is evil and sexy in a different way, much more in your face with the evil and the sexy. Now, I can appreciate that and ::le pant:: along with everyone else, but the subtle is just damn good.
