::blink::

I don't know if I want to cry or smile. That was... a beautiful conclusion.

I know the manga doesn't end here, but for the anime series, that was a beautiful way to end it. For a show that's all about personal relationships and people who learn to connect to one another, the ending couldn't have been more perfect. So much changed... I feel like I finally understand Tohru's character.

::satisfied sigh:: :: smiles:: ::cries:: ::smiles more:: ::cries more::

Oooh, you're a fan of Fruits Basket also? I haven't seen any of the anime, but the manga is truly a wonderful read. I only discovered the series last week, and immediately became enchanted by it. It's such a sweet, sad, moving story. While I'm partial to Tohru, Kyou, Momiji and Shigure, I adore nearly every character in it.

Anyway, if you haven't read the manga already, you should. :) It's still on-going, I believe, but there have been scanlations up to volume 10. I can hook you up with those, if you want.

hook me up, hook me up!

Me too... every character has a little place in my heart. I'm partial to Kyou, Hana, Uo, Shigure, and Tohru, though Tohru took the longest for me to get a good hold on her character.

I love Shigure and Ayame's mock-homoerotic banter. It's hilarious.

I'm happy to know the story goes on longer, because I could do with a lot more of this show.

You know what I need. I need a list of everyone on LJ that I know likes anime or manga. Because I'm always getting confused and thinking I had talked to different people about it than I did... I think I need a poll.

Sure. :) You can find the url to downloading in my LJ.

Same here. Though as far as shipping preferences goes, I have a huge soft spot for Kyou and Tohru. They're just very sweet together, but not tooth-achingly so.

I'm happy to know the story goes on longer, because I could do with a lot more of this show.

It's up to issue 89 now, and the next one will be out in April. I've also heard that they're considering the possibility of making a second season of the anime. *crosses fingers*

You know, I've been pleasantly surprised at how many people on my LJ friends list actually read manga. There are a lot more out there than you'd think!

I'm a Kyou/Tohru leaning person as well. I thought the anime had the two boys equal right up till the end, and then it ended in a way that nudged Kyou a bit ahead in likihood. If the story ended the way the anime did, I would call it a Kyouru ending more than Yukiru (I'm getting these terms from ff.net for ships... ::sigh::), because that Kyou/Tohru/Yuki confrontation had Yuki sort of on the side watching Kyou and Tohru, and Yuki seemed to be there for Kyou more than Tohru.

But knowing that there's more in the manga, it's of course still up in the air.

In fact, I just watched a really adorable Kyouru video to the Disney Beauty & the Beast song "Tale as Old as Time." I'd give you the link but this is a school computer and I don't have it here.

I've been surprised by the amount of otakus on LJ too. I think it's a big thanks to Cartoon Network, which has introduced a lot of people. [livejournal.com profile] irfikos surprised me by saying that she had started watching some of Inu Yasha because of me. :D I am glad that some people like it because with everyone's interests diverging after loss of Buffy and B/S, it's nice to know that some of the people like anime, because anime has been my default fandom since middle school. When I watched Buffy though I pretty much stopped dead in my anime watching. I was obsessed. And I still watch Angel and read Spike/Buffy fic and have lots of Spike icons, but I'm going back to anime to fill that need for new material.

I haven't watched the anime yet, but that sounds a lot like the manga. For the longest time, it was hard to tell which one Tohru was interested in -- there were plenty of support for either pairing. The issue does eventually get settled, though (and very nicely at that.)

Funny you should mention that, I just watched it yesterday! I got the link from the Kyoru mailing list. It really is an adorable vid, and the music very fitting. :)

For me it was the movie Spirited Away that first attracted me to anime, then friends convinced me to start watching the shows as well. I'm completely hooked now. :D

I found it on that same mailing list! Which I just joined yesterday. Yahoo groups, right? :g: maybe we'll see each other there.

For me it was the movie Spirited Away that first attracted me to anime,

That's good... it means you started with the very best there is. Hayao Miyazaki is one of my film gods. I was so pleased that it won the oscar for best animated film last year... I was prepared to scream bloody murder if it didn't.

I started by watching Sailor Moon on the Toonami hour on cartoon network, about...7 years ago in 7th grade. Of course, I was totally embarrassed to be addicted to such a show. I look back on it fondly, but I've seen enough now that I can admit it's pretty bad. But I loved it. At first it was only that, and not really anything else. But then CN started to play Gundam Wing, and I became completely obsessed with that show, and that really made me realize that I liked anime as a genre, not just one particular show. It was also with Sailor Moon where I first discovered fanfiction. After writing a few very sappy and embarassing pages of my own.

then friends convinced me to start watching the shows as well.

Ah, you lucky duck! You had friends to get you into it. I didn't have friends that liked it until high school. Even now, my best friend doesn't like anime at all. But in almost everything else we've got the same tastes (clothes, boys, music.)

I'm completely hooked now.

You either love it or hate it... and when you love it, you really love it. :) What other stuff have you read or watched?

Yep, I'm obsessed with watching Naruto.

I didn't expect to like it at first... I was leery of the animation style/ character designs (a little too Digimon or FLCL for me), and I knew it was a fighting anime. But the first episode hooked me right in. Firstly I liked the dialogue and the very human interaction between Iruka and Naruto, and the way I couldn't help but feel for Naruto being ostracized. And then whenNaruto stole the scroll and Iruka found him, and Naruto was telling Iruka how Mizuki told him to steal it and the innocence on Naruto's face compared with the fear on Iruka's... that's when I knew this would be serious too, not just fun and games. And then I was sucked in.

The second episode with Konohamaru and then the third that introduced Sasuke and Sakura's characters... those were so funny that I fell in love again.

I think I'm addicted to it because it's not stupid. So many of the complaints I have with some anime come from that-- people behave unrealistically and events or dialogue are so stupid that they bug me. I still have yet to get anything remotely like that from Naruto. The adults act like adults, the kids act like kids (even Sasuke, who wants to be an adult, nevertheless acts like a 12 year old boy), and the villains are villainous because they do really freaking evil things (though cute... like Kabuto!), and the heroes are flawed, and everyone is three-dimensional and there's always this feeling like more is going on than I am being told about like there are secrets the size of elephants. I love the atmosphere of anticipation that creates. What I'm trying to say, I guess, is that the characters have a sense of realism, the same sense of realism that I got from Buffy.

And I can't tell you how much I like the fact that the main characters are not defined by just a single personality trait each. Sure, Naruto is most known for his optimistic determination... but we've also seen him weak, afraid, sad, lazy, angry, and disillusioned (thinking of Sasuke and the second part of the chununin exam for that last emotion.) When you have a show with so many characters like this, certain "types" start to show up. Thankfully, with the exception of Hinata, most of the characters have been more than types. And I have hope that Hinata will get more character development later.

I'm a Sakura/Naruto fan. I have been since the third episode when Naruto (as Sasuke) said the exact same words that Inner Sakura wanted to hear. The anime looks like it's going to Sasuke/Sakura... but I'm holding out hope. So don't tell me what happens in the manga, if anything does. I'll get to it sooner or later. But that's my ship for now.
