God I hope this remake is cool. It looks cool. It could never be as cool as the orginal, but... the cast and directorare impressive. Casting Meryl Streep is genius and probably the one person who could take Angela Landsbury's role best. Denzel Washington is a top notch actor, and even better when he's well directed. The trailer makes him seem less actiony and more desperate, which is good because tMC is a thinking person's suspence film, not an action thriller. Sinatra is a hard pair of shoes to fill, but I think it's cool they weren't afraid to use a black actor for what was a famous white role before. And although Washington is probably the most marketable black male movie star out there which makes it not THAT much of a risky proposition after all... it's still a positive thing.
Liev Schreiber as the guy...you know, THE GUY....I think that's a very good choice. In fact, now that I've thought of him I can't imagine anyone better. In most of his roles I find him charming and likeable... except in a select few he has this eerie ability to look like a complete and utter sociopath. He scared the beejessus out of me in Phantoms...way more that that stupid black oil stuff. And in Scream 2, I could never quite believe he was innocent because he just looked so damn creepy even when he was trying to be smiling. ...And yet, in other movies, like RKO 180, I didn't think he was scary at all, and could even crush on him a little. That's real acting for you.
It's kind of how I view Chris Cornell's looks. Hot, yes. Sexy, yes. Would I believe you if you told me he eats the hearts of dead babies and hides bodies in his wine cellar? Yes.

I agree about Liev Schreiber as well...I couldn't believe he was innocent in Scream 2 because he looked so damn creepy. I kept on thinking there was some kind of mistake, and there was going to be a last minute reveal or something. It's like Skeet Ulrich from the first one...he just looked like a murderer!
