Fic musings for Fruits Basket

So I was thinking about my barely-started FB fic, "Mon Autre Vie", and wondering about what do in the one of the subplots to coincide with the major plot. And that led me kind of on a tangent.
Hiro is supposed to be a genius kid, right? Or close to it. So, what if 3 years passed and he was 14 instead of 11. That's 9th grade. He might be a bit more mature by then. He might, even, be mature enough to start putting those brains to use.
We don't know all THAT much about Hiro's character in the anime, and I haven't gotten to him in the manga yet. But he seems to be very angry. And I'm thinking that he might be more than a little angry at Akito and Akito's power, given the Kisa situation.
Angry enough that he could even plot to weaken Akito's power, or at least to control him more, if Hiro thought that there was a way to do it without it becoming a disaster. If he thought it was a strong enough to take the possibility of getting caught and punished severely.
Does this seem out of whack? Too far out? Because I'm thinking that Shigure and Hatori look like they handle Akito as much as Akito handles them. But... what if for some reason they were not able to do that any more? Someone would have to try to control the psychotic head of the family. I think Hiro would be a logical choice for that, if he only matured a bit and learned to bite his tongue.
Most of my fic deals with Tohru, and her memories. At first I was going to do the entire fic from just events surrounding her, so you'd know what happens only when she knows what happens. But now I'm considering doing a subplot with the Sohma family to clarify the situation before and at the time that Tohru finds her way back into their lives. At first I was going to focus on Hatori for that, but now I'm thinking maybe Hatori and Hiro too, or Hiro and Kisa.
If you imagined Hiro being 14 years old, would my descriptions above fit with how the character could possibly turn out, or does it seem out of character?
