I'm going to cut my hair on Friday.

I'm terrified.

I've had varrying lengths of long hair all my life.

When in shame or doubt or shyness, my hair was my curtain.

When confident, my hair was great for swishing as I walked.

On good days, my hair was my vanity.

Scratch that, on most days if I had to pick one thing to be vain about, my hair would be it. It's soft and curly and at the moment it goes 3/4 of the way down my back. It's the physical feature I've gotten the most comments on from both sexes, and I've got more than a little emotional investment in it.

I've never cut it shorter than my chin, only ever did that twice, and the last time I did that was 6 years ago as a high school freshman.

Right now, if I straighten it, it goes to my butt.

But this last Friday the hair headaches got to be too much, too distracting, and in a panic my mome and I made a call to my mom's hairdresser (nice woman) and made an appointment, at which I've convinced myself that I will walk in and tell the woman:

"Cut it as short as possible without making me ugly."

I swear, if she can cut it to half and inch and make it cute, I'll take that. I've been thinking about doing this for over a year.

But...

From 2 feet to 1/2 an inch?

I'm kinda terrified.

Pretty pretty hair. My hair is long too. It was straight and I was like Hmm. I want curly hair. So I go to the salon and get a perm...

Now I want my lovely straight hair back! It now get's all tangly and frizzy and dry.

*pouts*

Gah.

But, anyway, Your hair is massive long. Don't cut it off too short. ;)

thanks for the support. I just got my dad to take pictures so I can post before & after pics up here when I get it cut. He doesn't know I'm getting it cut though.

I wouldn't go to a half inch from that much. That's boy length. It's what I've gotten, and it's quite short. I suggest if you're cutting a good bit off, to take it to your shoulders or chin, and if you still want it shorter, go back. Gradually getting used to the shorter length.

no no way. I've done shoulders and I've done chin. I want it GONE. I want it, maybe not 1/2 inch, but probably less than 2 inches.

That's still quite short.. I suggest looking for hair styles and printing out a picture of one you like (or length rather than hairstyle) to take, or looking in books at the salon. Two inches is still REALLY short.
