For some reason, most of the suicide fics I see in the FB section of Fruits Basket focuse on Kyo.

This mystifies me... cause if I had to peg one of them for suicide, I'd have pegged Yuki hands down.

If Kyou or whoever died, at most we'd be treated to the bizarre spectacle of Tohru talking to TWO framed pictures and treating them like actual people instead of just one.

Tohru: Yuki, could you keep something in your room for me?
Yuki: Why are you giving me your picture of Kyo?
Tohru: Because I have to get dressed, and, well, he's a boy and all...

There was even that whole bit with Ritsu in episode 23 (so sad!) of Ritsu saying, "I'm going to kill myself because my existence is a burden on the rest of the world!" and Tohru saying, "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"

My first thought exactly. Dude, Tohru is incapable of depression. She just is. As far as Yuki vs. Kyo, I can't really see either of them committing suicide. But if somebody's going to, well...it seems like Kyo takes his problems out on the world rather than on himself. I agree that Yuki would be more likely to do it, just because he's the opposite; he blames himself for everything. He's like Hatori, in a way. Now THERE'S somebody to watch out for.

::laugh:: Weird but kinda funny in an ooky way.

That's true... he does seem more likely of the Sohmas...but I'd say I thinks he's in the been-there-done-that stage by the time Tohru meets him. He's past the point in his life where he might have been suicidal, and is in the stage of "coping" and "being adult about it" right now.

I wonder though... when I think about it, I wonder if the curse and Akito might hold the Sohmas (the inner circle of cursed ones) back from suicide. Not necessarily something overt like a rule, but as part of the servitude to their god they would not necessarily be inclined to deprive him of his subjects. Like it's just NOT something they would consider at all in the first place because his right to their lives is that strong.

On the other hand, they're all VERY cursed which is a pretty strong argument to suicide, if you have to have one. There's "Oh, I'm really depressed." and then there's "Oh, I have been literally suffering under a curse my whole life and am doomed to never be really free or happy cause the Powers That Be have it out for my whole bloodline."
