Yesterday and today I splurged to buy 3 manga volumes to read over Fourth fo July vacation. Fruits Basket #3, Trigun #1, and Saiyuki #1. I got them at 10% off since I'm a "subscriber" which means the store sets specific titles for me aside each month free of charge, and as a reward I get any magazine or comic or manga at an automatic discount.

I was walking out of the store and just picked my new Saiyuki manga when I flipped it open and realized something... the first pages weren't in color! They were in black and white!

::turn around and go back 15 feet to the store::

I asked the manager if they had any of the versions with the color art at the front that I had scene in Borders the other day and they said no, it must have been special limited edition or something.

I stood there a moment and pondered. Do I

A) keep the version I just bought at $9.47 with the discount

B) return it and go back to Borders and buy it there for $10.81 no discount, but with pretty color pictures

Of course, I chose option B.

It's only a dollar and if I'm going to fork over 10 bucks for an untried, untested manga full or semi-pornographic bishounen, then I damn well deserve to get them in color!

So today I went to Borders and bought Saiyuki #1.

I'm reading FB#3 right now. Oh my God!! The scene from Valentines day with Kyo and Tohru! Why oh why wasn't this in the anime?!?! It's so shippy. Just sooooo beyond shippy.

And Shigure! Oh my gosh. I mean, I knew in the anime that he was kind of duplicitous, but it's much more evident here, and vaguely threatening.

Dude, that Shigure icon is sooooo cute. So cute. Yeah, if Shigure turns out to be a bad guy in this, I'm gonna cry for a month. A. Month. I'm hoping he's just playing his own game and making everybody think he's Akito's bitch.

There are versions of Saiyuji without the pretty color in the front? Really? You know, it's possible the printer screwed up and no one noticed...or someone pulled them out to keep for their very own. Hmm.

Did you buy Trigun 1 or Maximum 1? 'Cuz Trigun's mmkay but Maximum's where the real action's at. There's a great bit with the insurance girls. Plus Wolfwood hitting Vash? Never gets old.

Word. But I don't think it will be like that-- not a bad guy, per se, but a ruthless guy.

Yes. Saiyuki 1 & 2, at least that's all they had in the store. Its the ones put out by TokyoPop, if that helps at all.

My Saiyuki has the color pictures. 2's coming today from Amazon. I'll be hella pissed if I don't have more pretty color pictures.

Kyoru: It is too bad it wasn't in the anime, because it was terribly cute. That date thing was hilarious, too--I loved watching Tohru and Kagura bond while the guys just kinda sat there looking grouchy.

Shigure: If you have to, think of them as two different people. They're both fictional anyway. Personally, as long as anime!Shigure can be my anime boyfriend forever and ever, I can live with manga!Shigure, no matter what his deal is. Even though he scares the hell out of me.

Note to self: Before you buy any Saiyuki manga, make sure to check the first few pages.

yup. The one I accidentally bought first had the same pics, but not in color... just regular pages of black and white. For the same price.
