Recently updated fanfic that I am madly addicted to and deeply impressed by:
The Price of Freedom by Erin Lasgalen
Fandom: Lord of the Rings.
Summary: AUAdventure. In the aftermath of the War of the Ring, Eowyn comes to the painful realization that the wounds of the heart she still bears cannot be healed by going back to the cage, however guilded, however loving the master. Four years and hundreds of le [summary cuts off here]
Why you should read it: Sometimes all it takes is that one perfect fanfiction to turn you to a new pairing. But that's not why you should read this. You should read it because it has a fantastic plot, fantastic action, fantastic supporting characters, fantastic drama.
Telekinetic by Manny Penpen.
Fandom: Witch Hunter Robin.
Summary: After a seemingly run-of-the-mill case, the STN-J finds itself dealing with far more than it bargained for. Why have all the recent Witches had the same Craft? And what does Sakaki have to do with it?
Why you should read it: Because it's an original concept, has action writing that kicks ass, and relishes in the little details. One of the few WHR fanfics out there of quality.
If You Need Her by Scribe Figaro
Fandom: Inu Yasha. Pairings: Miroku/Sango, hints of IY/Kagome
Summary: What if you had a second chance at life? What if you could carry only a single name from your own grave? A determined Miroku searches for Sango, his only link to the life he once had.
Why you should read it: This fic has skyrocketed to the top of all IY fics in my mind. It just... it's so beautiful. Rich detail, fantastic dialogue. A mulitlayered plot with a complex presentation to the reader. It is a bittersweet love story, mixed with a life & death drama. And a kickass villain.
Evermore by Zapenstap
Fandom: Fruits Basket.
Summary: Fruits Basket Fantasy. A mysterious being in a strange world collects cursed souls. An unusal messenger arrives to warn the Sohmas... or betray them. In a place called Evermore, a strange destiny awaits. All characters. Canon pairings. Not AU
Why you should read it: An epic for a fandom that it would seem impossible to write an action adventure epic for. But this one has. It's like a novel. In the best sense. So much HAPPENS...this has to be one of the most enjoyable and intense action/drama fanfics I've read that still manages to stay utterly and perfectly in character--- with. every. word.
You Can't Take It With You by Bob5
Fandom: Cowboy Bebop. Pairings: sort of Spike/Faye.
Summary: Post Real Folk Blues. Please go easy - it's my first time (at a Cowboy Bebop fic that is).
Why you should read it: An action drama rich with characterization. Funny, sad, exciting, bitter. Plausible and creative OCs in the background, wonderful characterization of the crew in the foreground. Good dialogue. Also, the first CB fic I've found to date that has Spike masturbating in the shower. For a moment I thought I had jumped fandoms...
