Yeah, everyone that voted for TNG is daft! DS9 was superior because it actually had that little thing called continuity. Alas, it was a show way before its time.

No way. The characters as a whole weren't as interesting and only a few ever held my attention for long, the wars got drawn out, and it went on too long after it lost steam.
I have to go for DS9. I loved the characters and the tightly woven story, and quickly forgace it its close resemblance to B5.
My issue with TNG was largely the lack of likeable woman. Once Tasha Yar died, we were left with the Doctor and the Counsellor, neither of which I liked in the least. Ensign Ro was pretty cool, but never permanent. I really can't get into shows that don't have chicks I can identify with - it's a personal quirk - so I lost interest in TNG very fast. However, I can understand why it was so popular - Picard, Worf and Data, especially, were very strong and memorable characters.
I can see your point about female characters now, but I never thought about it back when I watched that show. Probably because I watched it as a child and pre-teen. So I was less aware of details like that.
Overall, though, I never *liked* all the DS9 characters as much as I liked the NG characters. I mean, I liked them well enough to watch the show, but the only one I really really liked was Garrak. And they never felt as... family-like, as tightly bonded a crew.
