timepiececlock: (Shigure in yellow ochre manga)

I got Naruto volume 4 and Fruits Basket volume 5 this afternoon at the local comic store. Just finished reading Naruto.

I love Naruto. I mean, I've mentioned that many times before, but I just love this series, whatever form it takes.

I like how they call the groups cells instead of teams. Whether or not it's a closer translation to the japanese word used, it's a more descriptive translation of the actual function of the ninja groups as described in Narutoverse. Cells are teams, but it's a more specific meaning, denoting the group's ability to act independant of higher supervision and the more militaristic, guerilla-like nature of the ninjas of Narutoverse. They're not teams of athletes, they're cells of trained militia.

I liked the way the Kakashi/Iruka argument about the chuunin exams went in the manga-- it was just a little bit longer, and Kakashi seemed more considerate at first to Iruka instead of just being a hard-ass from the start like he is in that scene in the anime. Although, Kakashi is cool because he is a hard-ass. That's why he's Kakashi.

The flashbacks to Haku's history were much shorter and more concise here-- it flowed better that way too. In retrospect from much later in the storyline, I like the final Wave Country battle not just for it's coolness but because Haku is such a precursor to Gaara. Both much stronger than Naruto, yet so much like him. Of course, Naruto relates to Gaara more than Haku for obvious ::coughdemonsealcough:: reasons, but Haku had that orphan thing going that was more like Naruto than Gaara, who wasn't.

Later, it's onto FB #4. Mmmm... Shigure on the cover!

Now the question of the evening:

How much manga can I pack to take to my dorm?

You're reading the Naruto manga now? Or just the stuff that's been published?

Well, I own volume 2 and volume 4... you could say I'm up to volume 4. Which means yes, I am reading the Naruto manga. I was reading it before and have been for a few months. I just wasn't reading the part you were reading.

Okay. I wondered if you were reading the stuff online, and it appears you're not. :)

I started to download it but I had to save it by individual chapters, there was no massive zip file, and I gave up after about 20 chapters that I still haven't looked at yet. I don't want to waste time downloading 200 chapters individually. I'll just buy the book.

Yeah, that would be tedious after a while. I'm not sure how quickly the manga for Naruto is released. If I see any massive .zip files for it online, I'll surely pass it along.

Thanks. It seems right now the manga is being released slowly to stores... one volume a month or sometimes every 2 months.

I love your icon! And it has made me realize I have no Furuba icons... bad missa! It's times like these I miss my PSP the most. *sniff*

Time to go nab some icons!

FB is good for iconning. I made the yellow ocher Shigure one, and this one. There's another I have loaded that [livejournal.com profile] psychodragon82 made. She and [livejournal.com profile] octopedingenue have some great FB icons.

It's quite possible to take a lot of manga with you to the dorms. I had to replace a few things in order to do it, but I find that anime is much more important then say, a desk.

IT COMES WITH A DESK!

Or... so I was told. :D

Though, I figure... who needs footroom and knee space under that desk? Not me! I can stack whole rows of books and DVDs underneath.

When I started Uni last year, I was petrified that my bookcase would collapse under the weight of my mangas (all six volumes of Akira were pretty damn heavy) and in the end I had to just pile them all up next to the desk.

So my answer to the question:

Take as much as you can possibly carry! You can never have too much manga!

How much manga can I take to my dorm?

I wound up with 2 boxes full of it (Inuyasha, Fruits Basket, Naruto, and Maison Ikkoku).

*facepalm*

You people have CORRUPTED MEEEE!
