I decided to do what [livejournal.com profile] octopedingenue did a while ago and make a non-English international languages mix CD.

So, I am looking for suggestions!

Here's what I have so far:

French

Placebo - "Protège-Moi"
Pink Martini - "Sympathique" (providing I can still find it on my comp...)

Japanese

Michiru Oshima & BEPA - "Brothers" from the Full Metal Alchemist soundtrack
"Sound Life" from the Trigun soundtrack

Unknown

Metisse - "Boom Boom Ba" from Dead Like Me soundtrack (thank you [livejournal.com profile] d_irge!)

Obviously, I need a lot more recs. And I know there's a few folks on my flist not from America or the UK, so it's time to face the music.

I took the Pink Martini song down some time ago, but I'll put it back up and send you a link, if you like. Also, I recommend "Forever After" by Delerium. Pity you're not on AIM or I could just send you the files.

www.yousendit.com has become very popular lately, though the one time I tried it with a very large file it wasn't cooperating. ::sigh::

Thanks, though! I don't really know Delirium. ::interested::

Sadly, I feel AIM is the creation of The First Evil, thus it cannot be allowed near any computer I own.

But yeah, it is kinda pitiful that I'm the only one who doesn't use it.

Um, yeah. ^_^; I feel the same way about MSN, so we're at an impasse there. Will post to my website tonight and send you the links.

Since I already have a hotmail address and use Windows XP, MSN Messenger doesn't really make a difference. AOL leaves easter eggs and ads everywhere since I don't use AOL as a browser.

THANK YOU!

*concerned* I don't use AOL as a browser either, but I didn't notice that it was leaving presents for me. Maybe Norton Internet Security controls that? AdAware hasn't been turning anything up other than the usual load of cookies.

norton probably controlls it. When I first installed AIM on my old computer like 6 years ago, I didn't have Norton.

How about something from the Pillows, or the Pixies have a song called "Vamos", it's not entirely in Spanish, but it still rocks the fuckin' house and kicks some ass.
Oh! TATU! the original "All The Things They Said(?)".
Yay for the kinda scary Russian lesbos!

I have a whole nother mix CD of only the Pillows, so I kinda feel like that's cheating. Dunno why.

TATU might be interesting in its original form. I've never heard the Pixies song you mentioned.

Oh, I assure you it kicks ass, you can find it on the Surfer Rosa cd.

Let's see ... I've got a couple of decent Indian songs. "Chori Chori Gori Se" by Mela, "Darshan" by B21 -- oh, and I've got "Les Ailes" by Khaled, which is Arabian, I think.

::cough:: Well... I mean... those sound wonderful. Thank you for the wonderful suggestions. Have you ever heard of a site called yousendit.com? It's this fantAstic new site I heard about where you can send things... you know, files. Just lettin' ya know if you'd never heard of it, and if you should ever be so inclined, by chance, to send songs my way, why, I would be right appreciative and probably stop typing in this terrible speech affectation as a sign of my esteeeeeemed gratitude.

I can send them to you. Is the e-mail in your bio correct?

I also thought of a couple Italian ones. Would you like those, too?

I've been getting and obscene number. I'm shocked and delighted and amazing. Except the part where I'm crying on the side about Full Metal Alchemist but that's nothing new so just know that I am amazed and very touched that you decided to send so many.

It was my pleasure - I'd send you my whole library if I could. (Only it's 4,000 songs, so not so much.)

And I'm sorry about your FMA angst. You realize you're not selling this show at all? I mean, at first I was intrigued, but now that I see what you're going through, I'm TERRIFIED.

It's the best anime I've ever seen.

For all that it hurts me, it also makes me smile and laugh a lot which is why when the hurting comes it really hurts because I love everyone on this show *so* much, be they good or evil or just a random delivery person.

I wish it would last forever. I don't know if that's a good selling point or not, but... I do.

I have multiple recommendations...

From: [identity profile] evilredmenace.livejournal.com
It just depends what you're looking for, and what mood you're in. I had a middle eastern dance music phase... okay, I'm STILL really into it. So, check out an artist by the name of Ishtar, who happens to be the lead singer of a band called Alabina. Both of them are awesome... also, Amr (Amir) Diab is an excellent arab singer. Ishar's album is in french, arabic, and english. Alabina is mostly spanish, with some arabic in there occasionally.

German: Rammstein is good for hard, scary elements. Anything off of the "Mutter" album.

That's all I can think of at this point. I usually can come up with the appropriate artist for the occasion. Let me know if you want any other suggestions.

Rammstein. I know them. Yes, it's kinda scary.

Thank you for the suggestions! I've got a lot to sort through now... should be fun.

Everyone's suggested most of the people I would. Especially Francoise Hardy. April March does the same style of music (French pop) but she's relatively young and not French. I could send you some of her stuff. I have a lot of Francoise Hardy, too.

I have quite a bit of Arabic music too. I'd suggest, along with Amir, that you check into Ofra Haza (she's Israeli), Rachid Taha (Made In Medina's the best album), and DEFINITELY Natacha Atlas. I can send you stuff from either Taha or Atlas.

Someone beat me to the Indian music I'd have suggested right off - "Darshan" by B21. But I have two versions of "Chamma Chamma" by Sameer (off the China Gate soundtrack) which you may like. It was used in the song "Hindi Sad Diamonds" in the movie Moulin Rouge!.

Oh, and for Japanese, I have stuff by Gackt and Tomoyasu Hotei (made famous for "Battle Without Honor or Humanity" from Kill Bill Volume 1).

For Russian music, I highly recomend Nautilus Pompilius - 'Kril'ya' is a special favourite of mine.

I could rec some Finnish stuff as well... Or is that *too* obscure? :p

Mwah.

Try Don Huonot. The song I'd mostly recommend is 'Suojelusenkeli', though that one might b hard to find... Isn't Finnish fun? :p

I chose so many songs, I sent about four zip files of stuff. Rachid Taha, Natacha Atlas, April March, Tomoyasu Hotei, Gloria Estefan (some Spanish for you) and a few various and sundry in Spanish and Japanese, as well as the Sameer songs.

Enjoy!
