Grrr.

So we just spent a lot of money, and got two things:

1. sansung liquid crystal display monitor
2. tv tuner (turns my monitor into a tv screen, effectively)

Unfortunately, I am unhappy now.

1. My monitor isn't as sharp as it was when we were looking at it at the store. All fonts have this blurryness instead of a defined edge. I have played with the resolution and all the display settings to death and I can't make the blurryness go away. It's that typical LCD blurryness that I loathe. This is why I was reluctant to change from a regular monitor, which was hella sharper than this, which is supposed to be fantastically high quality. But still the blurry font. Even typing now is pissing me off because I hate looking at it. I feel like I need glasses or my eyes are tired or something. There's no hard lines around the fonts.

2. The S-Video port on the back of my tv-tuner is made incorrectly, so my Playstation2 S-Video plug doesn't fit. God knows why.

3. The vcr quality is really blurry on my monitor.

I am very discouraged.

I wanna cry. And over technology! Stupid. But it makes me want to cry because I'm so frustrated. Or maybe that's just the BLURRY FUCKING MONITOR pissing me off and making me think I want to cry because my eyes are tired of trying to focus on a BLURRY FUCKING SHIT MONITOR THAT'S BRAND FUCKING NEW.

I hate LCD screens. Really hate. I don't want this crap if it can't even display hard lines without making my eyes feel tired.

Darn, 'shaka. You have my sympathy. Stuff like that is so disappointing.

Is there anything you can do about it, like return it or call tech support (ick)? I know you are a super-perfectionist, and lots of times that's an excellent thing. But sometimes it makes imperfect stuff just claw at you, and I don't like that for my 'shaka.

Seemingly strange and stupid question: Do you have the monitor at eye level?

When I first got mine, I had a desk with a shelf along that back that the monitor sat on. The shelf was only a foot higher than the main desk top part but it made the monitor look shitty. As soon as I put the monitor on the lower main desk thingy, it looked much better.

If that's not the issue, I second the tech support or trying to exchange it suggestion.

Is your monitor connection DVI or Analog? It makes a large difference in quality if the LCD has to downsample to VGA.

Most LCDs also have an auto-calibrate function on them. Might want to see if if that's available.

And finally, is ClearType on? (right-click on desktop >properties >appearance >effects... )

There should be a checkbox that says "Use the following method to smooth edges of screen fonts:" with "ClearType" in the dropdown menu. If it's checked, uncheck it and see if that makes a difference.

That's all I cant think of right now. (I usually troubleshoot things better when I can actually see them).
