Naruto 109
Nov. 20th, 2004 12:46 amSasuke, Sasuke, Sasuke.... ::sigh:: Little Anakin, you reap your own destruction. Or, in less pretty terms-- you pooped your own pile of shit here and be warned that someday you'll have to swim in it.
That was a cool pose there at the end. I didn't expect him to be their leader. Frankly, I don't know if that's wise. Sasuke's smart and capable, but he isn't very imaginative and doesn't have a great record of leadership. I'd want him as a lieutenant, not a captain.
Every episode I see of Naruto, I get more and more convinced that Sakura and Naruto are made for each other. I don't doubt that Sakura really does feel strongly for Sasuke, and because of their commeraderie over the course of team 7 activities it is deeper than just a crush. But I ultimately think Sasuke doesn't see Sakura that way and never will. He appreciates her on some degree (his method of knocking her out was as close to considerate as we've ever seen him be), and feels protective of her at least some of the time (at least he did in the 2nd part of the exams), but he really doesn't ever think about her outside of those times that he thinks about the team as a whole. Sakura is a non-entity to him; which is worse, romantically, than him actually disliking her (I don't think he dislikes her, even if he finds her annoying-- what he said this episode he said to hurt her deliberately so as to make it easier for her to let him go, a small act of consideration not to be confused with actual kindness.)
Meanwhile, we slowly and surely get more and more images of Sakura and Naruto being alike. Laughing the same, yelling at Kakashi or others the same, and feeling the same way about friendship, loyalty, and duty. While Sakura appears to have the same blindness to Naruto that Sasuke has to her, Sakura has at least shown that she considers Naruto her friend and she worries about his safety, much more than Sasuke has ever given Sakura outright. The complete lack of regard of any real kind that Sasuke feels for Sakura seems a difference much harder and less likely to be breached than Sakura's slowly-crumbling facade of believing Naruto to be an annoying idiot she can barely tolerate.
Truthfully, I think this series will never have conclusive pairings. Given their ages, and that it just *seems* like the kind of story that would leave that unanswered, because pairings have relatively little importance to the plot.
But if it did, I would bet on Naruto/Sakura in the long run.
