I've been reading the Naruto manga online. I started with the funeral at the end of the exams (in anime timeline, episode 80 or 81 I think), and now I'm up to Chapter 165.

And all I have to say is:

Manga!Kabuto is even more my fandom boyfriend than anime!Kabuto.

I haven't decided how far ahead I'm going to read, if I'm going to go past the anime or not. I'll probably post my decision about it.

Looking at the manga (it's been a while since I bought the last volume and read it), I am struck by the fact that although they are very closely drawn, Naruto in the manga is more of a bish than anime!Naruto. Usually it's the other way around with characters.

I sincerely hope you stick with it and catch up to the rest of the manga readers. There's a fantastic new storyline starting. I haven't been this excited about Naruto in weeks!

I'll have to break down and buy a better video card or something soon, because all I've had was the manga (which I love) and *gasp* I've caught up! Now I'll have to wait until they release them...NO!

OK, I'm not all the way caught up, but from the looks of it Kakashi and Kabuto haven't gone all out after eachother yet. Now THAT I'd like to see.

I love the manga very, very much so I'm excited that you're reading it now. I don't know if anyone's said something to you but the most recent chapters of the manga are the equivalent of filler eps. Erm, I don't want to ruin anything for you in case you don't want to know but I think you'd be really interested in reading it. The Gaiden has only been going on for a chapter (239 to be exact) but there's been nothing spoilery in it so far for the gap between anime and manga.

I didn't like Kabuto when he was first introduced but as soon as he became Orochimaru's ambiguous and powerful right-hand-man I was hooked. He's just...the computer science major who's a loner but is secretly (and successfully) plotting to take over the world. I want one of my own.

Also: everyone is prettier in the manga.

I felt a kind of geeky-cute attraction to Kabuto during the first exam, but as soon as he showed up in the forest I started to really pay attention-- especially when he made the comment that if Naruto ever learned good chakra control he'd be a monster. Then when Kabuto greeted Orochimaru for the first time and we found out he was evil, I was positively smitten.

Right now in the manga I'm in the middle of the 3-way senin fight, and I loved Kabuto's little temptation of betrayal. It was even more explicit in the manga than the anime.

Also: everyone is prettier in the manga.

I was noticing that, particularly with Naruto. He's a lot cuter in the manga than the anime.

I want one of my own.

::laugh:: That's what I said when I first walked out of the theater after seeing X-Men 1. I was like, "Mystique is an awesome lieutenant. I want my own Mystique. Where can I get one?"

I'd like Kabuto too. But I'd use him for sex, because he's not totally trustworthy as a subordinate. He's a rat (however cute and efficient) and he might betray at any time. Or, as soon as its safely feasable for him to do so.

Actually, the reason I started to read the manga was that I saw octopedingenue's babyninja!kakashi icon and, well, I can't turn away from even the mere possibility of Kakashi Backstory.

I don't know what "gaiden" is.
