Left living room, as am now totally uninterested in John Doe anymore, and am eager to write a FF review.

You know, every new episode for Firefly I see, I swear its my favorite.

And then, like tonight, I see the NEXT one.

I've been Jossed.

I adored tonight's episode. I loved how Jayne had to "go to his bunk" every time Inara and her lady client were together (Joss definitely has no qualms over making girl/girl action as hot as girl/guy action, as we saw a glimpse of in "Our Mrs Reynolds", ep 3).

But the best stuff of ALL was the Wash/Zoe/Mal triangle and the Wash/Mal torture conversation. Funny and painful at the same time. And I love how it was resolved, especially with the lil Mal/Zoe prank at the end.

And ICKKK to the torture.

::holding hands against ears protectively and cringing::

Torture which, as I already said, bear a striking resemblence to the torture of Westley in The Princess Bride, book and movie.

But HEY! Shirtless Mal! Shirtless Wash!

And next week, Shirtless Simon!

That's shirtlessness x3!

::does her little happy-jig::

I loved the follow-up of having Jayne be free with his money and especially loyal. He obviously had the shit scared out of him by Mal, and it's sticking.

And speaking of Mal, you can't say the man's not TOUGH.

He's quite clearly very, very tough. Like, the toughest guy in the room. Maybe not the strongest, but the toughest. He didn't look like he'd be able to stay concsious on that torture table, much less get up and attack a body-guard from behind.

And poor Mal, with Jayne even stealing his soup at the end. Is there no sympathy for the tortured guy?

Heeehheee... I'm gonna have to start referring to him as Van Gogh from now on.

Wish they'd killed the old man (Niska). He was the least interesting character in this episode; I'm glad most of the torture was about Mal/Wash, and not the old man.

And really, how KICK-ASS was River in this ep?

"Nothing in the verse can stop me." My new motto.

And you bet that staement's gonna come back later to haunt them all.

Too bad Kayley got so freaked by it. But at the same time, I understand why. And I felt bad for her during the shooting, for her fear. Especially knowing as we do from the ep "Out Of Gas" that she comes from a fairly benign, safe family background.

Liked the interaction between Simon and Book/Sheperd/whatever-the-hell-they-want-to-call me as well.

S: "I've never shot anyone before."
B: "I was there. I'm fairly sure you sitll haven't shot anyone."

Hmm... on the River/guns part... I noticed the camera angle is similar to the one in myLJ icon: view from the barrel, backwards along the line of sight, to the gun-weilder. This has been done with shots of Mal before, and was also used a few times in The Matrix, especially wiht that shot of Trinity on the roof, when she steals the helicopter, and says, "Dodge this."

It's a very anime-style camera angle. They even talk about it on the Matrix DVD, in one of the commentaries/features.

But back to FF, I also liked this exchange:

Zoe: "I thought the Bible had fairly explicit rules about killing people."
:guns being passed around:
Book: "The Bible does. It is a little fuzzier though, about kneecaps."
