ETA: [livejournal.com profile] hecatehatesthat, I beg your forgiveness, for I will be unable to mail you out a disk. But I promise I will send it to you via the internet by Tuesday.

So, I watched episode 8 of FMA on Cartoon Network, and I had mixed opinions, but overall good.

I delighted by Roy's speech in the very beginning, because it was even more brutal and cruel in the dub than in the original, which is surprising in a good way. I am totally in love with their casting for Mustang's voice by now. I particularly liked this line:

"You can't go bringing every little thing that dies on you back to life, Edward; it's not possible and it's not healthy."

Ouch. ::shiver::

I liked Barry's voice quite a bit (ACK! Kyo Sohma's really a cross-dressing psychopath homage to The Silence of the Lambs! Nooooo, not my baby Kyo!), and Alphonse's voice was wonderful as always. Hawkeye's was good, Havok's was good, Scar was teh sexay voice of evil wuv, and the Furher's voice is growing on me.

By the way, [livejournal.com profile] octopedingenue, I was TOTALLY right and you were TOTALLY wrong about the "fuhrer" title. It says it, in English, right there on Edward's certificate. HA! I wish I had rewatched episode 8 when we were having that discussion.

I assume this means that they're going to refer to Bradley as the "fuhrer king" or "king" instead of just the "furher". I suppose that's alright.

My only complaint with this episode in English is that they changed Edward's monologue at the end. The additions they made were good-- I paticularly liked the comment about Edward not believing any adults would come to save him, which I think was the point of the episode. But I am sad that they dropped this line.

"We though too highly of ourselves. I thought I could save someone..."

I still think that the subtitled was more emotional (no one can scream like Pako Romi), but this one did well, and I was actually more pleased with this one than with episode 7's dub. I liked that they left some of Edward's swearing in. And I liked the word "whackjob" for Tucker.

ETA: I also watching Inuyasha last night because I was sleeping in the living room anyway (it's winter break and that means I get kicked out of my room when relatives visit). And because I liked this episode when I watched the sub. Something about seeing Sesshoumarru get pissy and lose his temper for once.

I found it scary the first time I watched it too... which was at around 3:30 - 4 am I think (midnight marathon... it was hard to stay up.) I actually like episode 8 more than episode 7... episode 7's all shocker at the ending, but the way ep 8 deals with the ramifications of that...and THEN has its own shocking ending (first time I've seen that kind of horror-film-esque scene done in any anime except Perfect Blue, much less an action/adventure magical drama)... it's just even better. Like creme brulee after ice cream.
