I think I've figured out the secret to enjoying Samurai Champloo.

I just stop expecting it to have a plot or a purpose or anything useful like that, and instead simply settle down and enjoy its enthusiasm. It may not be going anywhere fast or anywhere interesting, but it's easy on the eyes and sometimes makes me smile.

ETA: I don't mean it doesn't have a plot the way FLCL seems to not have a plot. FLCL has a plot, it's just very buried and very convoluted and very wound up in metaphor. In contrast, SC seems to be all "Well, we like the idea of a plot. In theory that sounds cool. But, meh, in practice it just seems too troublesome to bother even trying."

Eeeeexactly. Here we are, 18 eps in, and we still have no clue about the sunflower samurai. And yet, after watching Fuu and Mugen pick on Jin in the opening intro, who cares? It's hysterical, it's sly in ways that other anime aren't, and it's fun to watch. Honestly, after suffering through something like Witch Hunter Robin, what more do you want?

I enjoyed WHR when I watched it, but after seeing it once, repeats just bore me to tears.
