I actually left work and everything was reminding me of the little thing that riddering wrote. Now I'm like "Dammit, ANOTHER OTP? Did I really need a new one?" *G*
Even though I'm not the one who started Scar/Lust, I'm glad people are starting to get it too. It's my third Fullmetal Alchemist OTP. (The first being Hughes/Gracia just because and the second being Roy/Riza.)
Those are my 3 OTPs too. For Scar/Lust... I wanted it during the anime and I was really feeling it in episode 41 and 42 and stuff... but it was like The Pairing That Never Was. I wanted it, but circumstances made it impossible. Except in our heads. And in the "real" world.
Yeah, I think that's part of why I never shipped it all that hard, either. Though I know that's what makes other people ship it TWICE as hard, the tragedy behind it... But it's so subtle, I left it alone as it was, 'cause how was it going to ever happen? He would NEVER have said anything, and she wasn't even capable of feeling that way (but did anyway, the miracle of twoo wuv ^_^) - so it was easier not to even think of it all that much.
And then, huzzah! Someone uses the phrase "Salt of the earth" and I get turned on and post something, and lookie what happens! ^_~
..I don't think anyone needed to know that, though. :P

Subtlety is by the thing I appreciate the most about FMA. And this is a total tangent, but... I loved the subtlety of the Sloth introduction. At first it was there, but not there... and you had an IDEA who she was but they never really gave you any strong hints to make you sure of it... until finally you just KNEW, and you couldn't say WHEN you officially started to know, you just did. Edward never really came out and said "OMG! You're my mother!" until like way later... and yet by the time he was digging up the bones we all knew who she was. It was just so. damn. subtle.
The subtlety in the animation, with facial expressions and little set details (like the gun on Roy's desk in the first episode 25 flashback), and subtlety in dialogue and subtlety in character relationships.
Even Roy/Hawkeye, which was way more canon than Scar/Lust, was still very, very subtle for 99% of the series.

It's just those arms. Nobody gets shoulders like that from being a wandering vagabond serial killer. He had to have done some nice, sweaty labor first. Mmmm...
I was thinking about not even posting that news but I'm glad I did because FMA talk makes me happier than anything else. No other series has left me feeling so complete but at the same time giving SO MUCH for fans to discuss and happily wank over. The best part? Four or five people can make a post with so much brain candy where with other fandoms it takes many more with even fewer ideas coming out of it.
FMA just owns, really.
