Big essay revision due tomorrow. Going to bed now. Treated myself with some anime before I did.

I knew I would like Fakir. I knew I would when he was the first person to clap for Rue/Ahiru's dance in episode 2. Even though he was plainly an antagonistic figure. Him clapping-- was he being sarcastic because it was amusing that Rue had such a clumsy partner? Was he being sarcastic because he wanted to mock Rue? Was he simply amused by the whole drama being played out in front of him between Rue and the anteater girl and Mytho? Was he being weirdly kind? Or did he actually clap for artistic appreciation of the dance? I think it might have been all of the above.

Then there were all those scenes in the next episodes where he was weirdly, possessive, rude, mean, and defensive. Didn't like them so much, but I had hopes there was more than meets the eye.

And then there was the duck scene. The cute, cute duck scene. Which harkened back to both his genuine worry over Mytho's breakdown and the scene where he clapped for Ahiru & Rue.

And then we get the stuff in the second half of this episode, when he's all phantom of the opera / knight stuff. Hah. Clearly, we the audience has no real idea what the frell is actually going on here. So judging would be bad. No judging.

I like Fakir. He reminds me of Van Fanel, from Esca. But with big hair and hosiery.

Off-topic, but, I also like the Narrator, Drosseleymer, or whatever his name is. His duex ex machina in episode 7 was amusing.

Some questions. So, if I underand it right:

The prince fought the raven, using the sword. And he beat the raven out of the story, but in order to do so, the sword decided its master (the prince) needed to lose his heart/memory. So the prince's friend (Fakir), used the sword to break the prince's heart into pieces.

And then somehow they all ended up attending ballet school together.

The walk-comatose prince, the friend, and the raven in the form of a girl.

This is a bizarre anime.

And then a random duck from a nearby pond felt sorry for the prince who had no heart nor memory, and so the ghost of the dead writer of the story about the prince and the raven uses his "artistic liscence" (Edel's retail magic stone?) to turn the duck into a girl/princess, giving her the task of saving the prince, at the cost of never being with him (because she's a really duck, I suppose, not human.)

So she attends ballet school too. And she starts to give the prince back his heart again, drawing him back into the story. But when the prince starts to get his heart and be drawn back into the story, the raven gets pulled in too, and starts to emerge from the form of the girl it's been for a while.

And the friend, who seems to be the only one who know's what's going on, isn't happy that history is repeating itself, and he's going to have to "kill" his friend again by breaking his heart/mind/memory.

Meanwhile, the duck/girl/princess is now in love with the prince, and the prince is infatuated with her because he associates her with all his gradually returning emotions. But they're never allowed to be together.

Ahh. I think I get it. Am I on the right track?

In my happy head, Mytho would get his emotions back and realize he really does feel affection for Rue, and Rue could stop being a jealous raven then, and Mytho and Rue could be happy. And then Ahiru would realize she has more in common with Fakir than she knew (after all, in episode 7 she also thought Mytho might be better off without a heart), and she would tell him "I'm really a duck." And he would go, "Yeah, I figured that out from your behavior. S'okay." And then as a reward for helping the prince Ahiru would get to stay a girl, and she and Fakir could hook up.

Yeah, that would be cool.

EIDT: I also adored this line:

"I won't be fooled just because his bread was tasty!"

Made me seriously giggle. I can imagine taking it out of context and putting it on Darth Vader icons or something. Or funnel cake icons with Andrew from BTVS.

And then it was cute how she kept on eating it anyway, because she's a cute little duck at heart.

episode 10 is great. I mean insane. And how is it that in three episodes Fakir has gone from antagonist to darn near a hero? It's all about perspective!

But... if the knight killed the prince's heart with the help of the prince's sword and then wandered forever, unsure of whether what he did was right or wrong, how could he have been killed by the raven?

Still, Mytho not aging is very interesting. Like he's the only one who hasn't been reborn.

Episode 10 is insanely great? You're right, it IS all about perspective...peeling back the layers of a story to show the bones and twists and turns underneath.

I think the little "Once upon a time" intros are not always meant to be literal historical descriptions of the history happening in the series--sometimes they're a parallel story, sometimes they're meant as a warning, sometimes they appear to be the story on which the "Tutu" was based but then subtly changed.

Mytho is a very interesting character and only gets more so.

YouSendIt has been cracking out on me all day. Was it me that you got the ep from, or was it Jillian or Diana? They were going to try sending it too. Nonetheless, I'll try sending 11 now.

Who are Jillian or Diana? I'm bad at names.

I thought it was you because the person wrote "Fakiiiiiiiiiir" in the comments. Maybe Fakir jumped out of the story to send it to me?

[livejournal.com profile] riddering = Diana

And ha! It was from me, then. It totally LIED and told me it had failed to send it. Hopefully if it does the same with the next ep you'll at least still get the episode.
