Well, that's interesting. Kind of amazing, actually, that you haven't had the info force-fed you by now.

Anyway, Joss Whedon did this short-lived show called Firefly that got cancelled after only about 13 or so episodes, about 2 years ago.

He pitched the idea to Universal as a movie, and it got picked up, aided by fan support for the show online, critical praise, and very enthusiastic DVD sales of the episodes that were aired (and one or two that weren't).
