timepiececlock: (Naruto - Thursday's child)

I finally got around to watching the new opening and ending sequence of Naruto. I'm still about 7 episodes behind, but I'm spoiled so skipping to #130 just to watch the credits wasn't a big deal.

For both the opening and ending I love the animation, but I don't particularly like the music. The opening grates on my ears. The ending is less harsh, but I still don't care for it.

The animation, though... whee! At least Sasuke's only in a little bit of the opening, considering we'll have to sit through god knows how many flashbacks during the episodes themselves. The rest of it is pretty cool. And the ending credits just tickled my Naruto/Sakura fangirl heart.

I'm kinda worried about how fast the anime is catching up to the manga, though. That spells badness in the future-- either more delays that break away from canon like the silly race episodes, or breaking away from the manga entirely, or cencellation. ::pout::

We've been discussing this at [livejournal.com profile] chuunin for the last few days. Some people are convinced, since the anime is insanely popular in Japan, they won't take the summer off, but do strings of filler arcs. Pros and cons are associated with it - it breaks away from the canon, which this anime's been really classy at preserving but what if they used the time to go into stories for the other characters during the two and a half years of missing time?

Then again, the second movie is supposed to be due out in Japan this summer, if I recall correctly. Maybe they'll consider that the Naruto fix for a few months and put the anime on hiatus, so Kishimoto can put some distance between the manga and it.

You know, I think that would be the least damaging way to break from the manga. I would be okay if they did that. Heck, the idea kinda appeals to me. It wouldn't interfere with the main timeline following the manga, and it would give us fun extra stuff about the minor characters.

Hell, it might lead to better fanfic. Learning more about what characters like Neji, Tenten, Shino, or Hinata were like as younger children, or what Tsunade, Jeriaya, Kakashi, Iruka, or the 4th were like as younger people or children would give people a more concrete basis for characterization.

Oohh... there could be Kabuto flashbacks. ::heart flutters::

And because it's all in flashback form, it would seem more like an omake sort of thing and less like sacrilage of the main storyline.

It'll be like Sailor Moon where they randomly add half a season waiting for the manga to catch up. (Fioré, anyone?)
