And that was an even BETTER episode. Daaaayyymmm.

"Maybe I was the only one... that thought ...you were my friend. If that's the case... then I...am so stupid."

:::flashbacks hit::

Oh man. I'm getting teary-eyed. I'm actually on the verge of crying here. It's the stupid music. The Naruto music of angst and pain and loneliness. This music is doing it to me and NOOOOOOOO!!! NARUTO! NOOOO!!!!!

::Naruto glows red and grabs Sasuke's hand::

YES! But still... kinda wanna cry still...

Sasuke: What...is this?

Rashaka to monitor: It's a demon, fuckface. He's got a demon. Like Gaara. Get with the picture.

Rashaka to monitor: Oh, and when you see him again in three years, he'll have had three years to get used to using the demon's power and he'll whoop your ass clean off with it.

Naruto: I will not let Orochimaru have you!

::credits roll::

Rashaka: WHAT?! NO! YOU CAN'T END IT THERE DAMMIT!

...

::deep breath::

Well, I'm very pleased with how this is turning out. I like it better in the anime than the manga for these last few episodes. And I'm glad these eps are getting the star treatment as far as animation goes, and not the C- treatment of some episodes.

For stuff like this I almost wish I hadn't read the manga first, because it would be nice to experience this sort of confrontation unspoiled to get the whole emotional and visual experience out of it.

Parting thoughts: I love Naruto and I think Kakashi's voice is too fucking sexy for this show. And I don't find voices speaking Japanese sexy very often.

EDIT: Upon rewatching certain parts, I have to say that younger!Naruto looks cuter than younger!Sasuke in this episode. And if Sasuke grows up to look like Itachi and Naruto grows up to look like the 4th (you totally know he will!), Naruto's gonna be the one getting the dates.

Also, I'm never ever gonna stop using this icon. Cause it will never not be appropriate.

EDIT: I also had some post-132 thoughts on the Kakashi scenes here:

Sheesh. Trying to psychoanalyze that guy is hard.

You know what I've really appreciated about the last 4 or 5 episodes? They make better use of silence. Sometimes Naruto, both the anime and the manga, likes to fill up silence with lots of words. Lots of explaining, lots of analyzing.

In the last few eps, though, especially this one and the last one, there's just been a lot heavier use of silence as a mood device.

Thank you. It's working beautifully.

"Maybe I was the only one... that thought ...you were my friend. If that's the case... then I...am so stupid."

That got me, too. And the way he SAID it. Just...WAH. It broke my heart into little pieces.

Oh, and when you see him again in three years, he'll have had three years to get used to using the demon's power and he'll whoop your ass clean off with it.

Hee! I'm hope that's how it goes down. Although...actually, I wouldn't mind seeing Sakura beat the holy hell out of him instead. Because Sasuke probably wouldn't expect her to be able to do what she can do now. I'd love to see the look on his face when he sees her use that insane strength. I wonder what he'll think of the fact that, though she was the physically weakest of their team, she was able to become incredibly strong without becoming evil or anything.

And I agree with you that these have been some great episodes. I almost didn't watch them because this part of the manga made me so emotional. And while this part of the anime is making me emotional, too, it's just so, so well done. I'm glad I decided to watch.

I think I rushed through this part of the manga too fast (these chapters were already out by the time I caught up), which is why the anime is hitting me hard. I remember my main emotional reaction before wasn't this part or the main fight-- it was afterward, with the image of Kakashi carrying the unconscious Naruto on his back through the rain.

I can't wait to see that image animated.

Also, I left a comment on your ep 132 post. :)

Same here. I actually had a delayed reaction to it or something. Because at first I was like "Hey! Spiffy action and fighting sequence!" It wasn't until a day or so after finishing the arc that I realized how freaking upsetting it all was because Sasuke was MEAN and Naruto was SAD. I was looking back through the colored images or something and it hit me, I think.

Oh, yes. That's such a beautiful, heartbreaking image. I'm looking forward to seeing it animated, too.

Awesome! I really want to reply, because you gave me a lot to think about (which is great, because I love character analysis). But I'm too tired to think analytically anymore tonight. So I shall reply as soon as I can tomorrow. :)

Also, before I go to bed, I have to say how awesome it is that you used "How Can You Mend A Broken Heart" lyrics in your subject for this post (I just noticed it). I love that song. :)

the phrase "help me mend my broken heart" just popped into my head for the title.

Then I googled it out of curiosity, and realized, duh, it's a song! Don't have it myself, though.

do you have MSN messenger? Maybe next time we can chat instead of trading email comments. :)

If you want it, I could probably get it for you. I have it on a CD somewhere.

do you have MSN messenger?

I think I do, yes. I've never actually used it, but I'm pretty sure I have it. I'll probably need to update it and such before I can use it, though. But, yeah, it would be cool to chat sometime about all this stuff. :)

Don't worry about the song-- I'm going to try to get it on teh_music. I know there are a couple of covers... what version do you recommend or is the most famous?

Um...the only version I have ever paid attention to is the one by the Bee Gees. I consider that one that original since they wrote it, but they may have written for someone else and then recorded it themselves later. I'm not sure. But I really like it. And, I should say in case you are unfamiliar with their early work...it's nothing like their disco "Staying Alive" stuff. I've always loved their pre-disco stuff.

added you! I listened the Bee Gees song, and I have to say that sorry, we're thinking about different songs entirely. You're thinking of "How do you mend a broken heart" whereas what's in my head is a little different wording. I'll have to figure it out somehow.

or maybe

or maybe I'm thinking of the same song but the version i remember is sung so radically different that I think of them as separate songs.
